Rich with Embarrassment…

I saw this posted on another site and I just had to share it. I thought it was hysterical but so true. As a mom you may not have experienced exactly this, but I am sure something similar! Hope you enjoy it! More pics and posts coming soon!

A 3-year-old Tells All From his Mother’s Restroom Stall” By Shannon Popkin

My little guy, Cade, is quite a talker. He loves to communicate and does it quite well. He talks to people constantly, whether we’re in the library, the grocery store or at a drive-thru window.

People often comment on how clearly he speaks for a just-turned-3-year-old. And you never have to ask him to turn up the volume. It’s always fully cranked. There have been several
embarrassing times that I’ve wished the meaning of his words would have been masked by a not-so-audible voice, but never have I wished this more than last week at Costco.

Halfway, through our shopping trip, nature called, so I took Cade with me into the restroom. If you’d been one of the ladies in the restroom that evening, this is what you would have heard coming from the second to the last stall: ”Mommy, are you gonna go potty? Oh! Why are you putting toiwet paper on the potty, Mommy? Oh! You gonna sit down on da toiwet paper now? Mommy, what are you doing? Mommy, are you onna go stinkies on the potty?”

At this point I started mentally counting how many women had been in the bathroom when I walked in. Several stalls were full … 4? 5? Maybe we could wait until they all left before I had to make my debut out of this stall and reveal my identity. Cade continued: ”Mommy, you ARE going stinkies aren’t you? Oh, dats a good girl, Mommy! Are you gonna get some candy for going stinkies on the potty? Let me see doze stinkies, Mommy! Oh . Mommy! I’m trying to see In dere. Oh! I see dem. Dat is a very good girl, Mommy. You are gonna get some candy!”

I heard a few faint chuckles coming from the stalls on either side of me. Where is a screaming new born when you need her? Good grief. This was really getting embarrassing. I was definitely waiting a long time before exiting. Trying to divert him, I said, ”Why don’t you look in Mommy’s purse and see if you can find some candy. We’ll both have some!”

”No, I’m trying to see doze more stinkies. Oh! Mommy!” He started to gag at this point.

”Uh – oh, Mommy. I fink I’m gonna frow up. Mommy, doze stinkies are making me frow up!! Dat is so gross!!” As the gags became louder, so did the chuckles outside my stall. I quickly flushed the toilet in hopes of changing the subject. I began to reason with myself: OK. There are four other toilets. If I count four flushes, I can be reasonably assured that those who overheard this embarrassing monologue will be long gone.

”Mommy! Would you get off the potty, now? I want you to be done going stinkies! Get up! Get up!” He grunted as he tried to pull me off. Now I could hear full-blown laughter. I bent down to count the feet outside my door.

”Oh, are you wooking under dere, Mommy? You wooking under da door? What were you wooking at? Mommy? You wooking at the wady’s feet?”

More laughter. I stood inside the locked door and tried to assess the situation.

”Mommy, it’s time to wash our hands, now. We have to go out now, Mommy.” He started pounding on the door. ”Mommy, don?t you want to wash your hands? I want to go out!!”

I saw that my wait’em out plan was unraveling. I sheepishly opened the door, and found standing outside my stall, twenty to thirty ladies crowded around the stall, all smiling and starting to applaud. My first thought was complete embarrassment, then I thought, where’s
the fine print on the ‘motherhood contract’ where I signed away every bit of my dignity and privacy? But as my little boy gave me a big, cheeky grin while he rubbed bubbly soap between his chubby little hands, I thought, I’d sign it all away again, just to be known as Mommy to this little fellow.

The Unpacking Continues

So the day has gone fairly well. I have spent most of it working from home, cleaning and unpacking. The living room and kitchen are looking great and I will hopefully be able to post before and after pictures of them later this evening. All in all it has been a pretty uneventful day with most of the excitement coming from a trip to Target for diapers, wipes and a few other special things. Hopefully I will have pics of the house to post tonight!

The House and It’s Changes… Part 1

So many people have been asking to see the house and while we still have a lot of unpacking and cleaning to do, I will start the series of pictures that I have. What I plan to do is show before and after pictures of the house. Before we moved in and after we did some work and moved in our things. I have to say looking back the house has changed quite a bit and that is a very good thing! We basically have the kitchen finished, as well as the living room and master bedroom. Abby’s room is still in the works, as we dont have her furniture yet (it has been ordered and should be here in a week or two) and the office looks more like storage at the moment. It is exciting to watch as things change. Hope you enjoy and I will post more pictures as I take them to show the comparisons!

For the moment you can see the front of the house and the master bedroom. We havent done much to the front other then clean up the landscaping a bit. Any cosmetic changes will be done later on.

That’s 8427 Hatillo Avenue… pretty isnt it?

The master bedroom is a conversion that was once the garage. Yes that means we are left without a garage but oh well. We now have a large master bedroom that fits all of our furniture, which was a must. In the ranch style and contemporary homes built in the 1940’s, large master bedrooms are hard to come by. As you will see there was a lot to clean up and change, but its amazing how a little bit went a long way in here.

As you can see the blinds and trim were all in dark dingy wood and the carpet was once a blue color.

The french doors in the master bedroom lead out to the gorgeous backyard, which was a major selling point to the house. As you can see, the walls were super dirty and the carpet that was once blue, well… it was absolutly disgusting! Let’s just say they had several dogs and cats…

The transformation only took a few days, but what a difference! I am sure its noticable, even in pictures!

As you can see, we repainted the walls in a color called Potters Clay. The trim through out the room, the french doors and the windows were all painted white. We installed new blinds which were also white. And the biggest difference… we put in new carpet! Eventually we will put hardwoods floors down to match the rest of the house.

As you can see, no more dirty walls and carpets. We eventually took that fan down and replaced it with a chandelier that matches the sconces on the walls by each closet. So pretty!!

Well that is a small peak. I plan to take more pictures over the next few days as we clean things up and unpack more boxes. Once it is clean, I will take a picture of the master bedroom with our furniture placed in it and with our art and pictures hanging. It makes a huge difference and looks even more like a home!

Much more to come…. Stay Tuned!!

Mothers Day

SO… I celebrated my first official Mother’s Day this year! It was a very nice, low key day. Shaun made me breakfast in bed and I woke up to find a beautiful bouquet of roses sitting on my dresser. We basically hung around the house all day and didn’t bother with unpacking or cleaning (which was very nice). Then Zoe came over for a nice dinner that Shaun prepared. The menu included a lovely creamy tomato soup with pesto to start, bacon wrapped Fillet Mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus as the main course and mini pound cakes with strawberries, vanilla ice cream, whip cream and homemade strawberry syrup for dessert. I must say… I was very pampered!

The beautiful roses that I found on my dresser when I woke up… aren’t they beautiful?!

Breakfast in bed included pancakes, strawberries, bacon eggs and a cold glass of milk. I just had to take a picture because it looked so yummy! I soon found out that it was!

It is hard to believe that I have already celebrated my first Mother’s Day. Time flies so fast. I have to say though, being a mom is the best thing I could possibly think of doing. I look at Abigail every day and think to myself, “I cant believe that I was part of creating this beautiful little person”. I know, mushy… but its true. She is one of the many wonders that I cherish in this world!

Abigail wearing her pretty blue and white dress. It looks just like a Tiffany’s box! At this point she was ready to go to bed.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmas, great-grandmas, aunts, sisters and everyone in between. I hope it was a wonderful day!

Blogging Commitment…Woops

Ok… so I totally failed at my daily blogging commitment. Life has been super busy, as always. However, I promise to have several posts up within the next few hours! Lots of things to say and some pictures to show as well. Lots more to come!

Blogging Commitment

Ok… since I have received a lot of flack for not keeping this blog up to date (with the exception of the last few days) I have decided to stay committed as best I can. Therefore my goal will be to post every day, even if there wasn’t much happening. If I cant keep to that, because I might be busy or kept away from a computer, then I will commit to updating at least every week until I can get back on schedule. Don’t laugh, it can happen! Just watch me. Before you know it, you will feel like you are right there with us. I will say though that I cant promise pictures with each post as that takes more time, but I will be good about posting pictures as well! Let the fun begin… starting tomorrow!

Other People’s Pictures

I just had to share these photos with every one. My dad just sent them to me last night as we were chatting online and I love them. Who doesn’t? Abby is such an adorable little girl and of course you have to have some bath time pictures! My dad took these the first night we were in town while Abby took her first bath at Grandma and Grandpa Taylor’s house. Because we arrived on Easter Sunday, Abby had a few new toys to play with. The “Easter Bunny” gave her a set of Farm Animal Bath Toys that fill with water and I am sure when she gets older shell love squirting mommy and daddy with them. For now Abby is happy just chewing on them and splashing around in the tub.

As you can tell Abby enjoyed them immensely and still does! Most of the time she plays with them outside of the bath tub. As a mom I have to say they are a great toy. Brightly colored and perfectly sized for kids ages 6 months and over. All of them captured her attention but the pig and the lamb seemed to be her favorites.

One day these pictures will completely embarrass Abby, so until then I will enjoy the fact that i can show them off to everyone and she wont throw a fit. Thanks dad for capturing such adorable pictures! Jillian, I am still waiting on yours! Love you all! More to come later!

Finally Excited About An Upcoming Movie…

It has been a very long time since I have been excited about a movie coming out. I was at the midnight showing of the new Indiana Jones and well, a tad disappointed there. The last movie I was willing to stand in line and then pay $10 to see was The Dark Knight and at least then it was worth the time and the money. Finally though, something I really want to see and I hope its worth all of the excitement…. Angels and Demons.

I am well aware of the controversy that once again surrounds Dan Brown and his book, but it was an incredible book. Personally I felt it was much better then the DaVinci Code. I say pick up a copy and start plugging away at it now before the movie hits theaters! I promise you will be able to finish it before then, I couldn’t put it down! Just had to say that! Like I said, I never get this excited about a movie!

First Teeth and More!!

So I don’t have an actual picture, because they are still small and Abby insists on chewing on my finger every time I go to pull her lip down, but Abby has offically popped her first two teeth! Her bottom front teeth popped in simultaneously a day or two ago. Abby was really working on them while we were up in Montana visiting with my family and they cut through towards the end of our trip, but now they are officially there! My goodness I cant believe she has teeth! I am certainly going to miss those bare little gums.

Abby has also finished her veggies and has moved on to fruits! We tried bananas today for the first time and well, she loved them! A few more days of bananas and then she will be on to applesauce! After that, peaches and after that pears! Once those are down we can move on to our stage 2 foods like mixed fruits, meats and more. Abby is also sleeping a lot on her tummy with her knees underneath her. I think she will be crawling in no time at all! Hopefully I can catch video of that and figure out how to post it. She is growing so fast, before you know it she will be off to college!

Growing Older, Wonderful Memories and New Beginnings!

Ok so I am back! There has been so much going on that it was nearly impossible to keep up with it all. But I will catch up with everything as best I can!

Abby at 5 months… look at those big baby blues!

On April 2nd, 2009 Abby went in for her 6 month check up. We are always blessed to hear the words… “she looks perfect” and that was exactly what Dr. Calig said again! Abby was 26 inches long and weighed 18 pounds 15 ounces at the time. I am sure she has grown more since. Abby is changing so fast and is doing a lot in regards to development. She has just finished eating her first round of veggies and is now on to fruits. Luckily, she is not a picky eater and peas were her only issue. While she makes faces of distaste for them, she still eats them. Abby is rolling all over the place and I am sure will be crawling soon. If she had it her way, she would be walking instead of crawling but Shaun and I dont want her to miss that important step in development. We shall see what happens in the next little bit!

Abby at 6 months… Smiling away like the little cutie she is!

Since my last post and I happy to say that we have found a house! Yes, we finally found a home that we absolutely love! We put an offer in and now we have a wonderful home in the San Fernando Valley. We closed escrow close to the end of March and moved in not too long after. We have done some work on the house which has slowed our ability to unpack boxes, but we are finally settled and hope to stop living out of boxes soon! Once the work is finished I will post some before and after pictures for everyone to look at. It is a beautiful home and I am so happy to live here!

One drawback to the house was that the kitchen hadnt been touched since the house was built back in the 40’s. So Shaun decided that it was the first thing that needed to be fixed and right away. Work began completely gutting the kitchen before we moved in. I think we hoped that a bulk of the work would be done before time came to move, but alas it wasnt meant to be. The kitchen renovation has taken care longer then expected and still has not been completed. Shaun knew it was driving me batty as it meant that we couldnt really even unpack everything from the move, so I spent spring break with my parents and sister up in Montana. Abby came with me, but unfortunatly Shaun had to stay and work. I already had the time off. I had a wonderul trip and it was great to get away. Even though my parents still had to work because of the late notice, I still had lots of time to visit and relax. Abby and I had the chance to see where Aunt Jillian works ( both Bath and Body works and Tanya’s Dance Company), meet one of my dad’s coworkers, meet my moms coworkers and we had the chance to visit Yellowstone National Park. It was Abby’s first trip! We also had the chance to see Jillian dance at the Montana State Games in Billings. All in all it was a wonderful trip and as a plus I came home to a kitchen that was almost done, minus a few important details.

Its early in the morning but Abby smiles for mommy just before hitting the road for Montana.

Abby and Auntie Jillian had the chance to hang out quite a bit and Abby took everything Jillian had to say very serious…. I love this picture!

Abby seems to think she is Grace Kelly! She is sporting her glasses on her first morning out to Yellowstone…

Lamar Valley, Yellowstone National Park. This area of the park is home to several of Yellowstones largest wolf packs, the Druid Pack and the Slough Creek Pack.

Mommy and Abby in Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park. Can you see Abby’s adorable bunny slippers? They were a gift from Great Grandma Prueter, Aunt Diane and Uncle Barry and they looked absolutly adorable on her tiny little feet!

Other then that, we have been settling in and trying to get everything unpacked. Abby’s room is still the area were we have our boxes stored, but Shaun emptied a lot while we were away! Hopefully we will have it cleared and can set up Abby’s own room soon. It will be nice once Abby can have an official nursery of her her own!

Back In The Saddle Again!

Hello Everyone!!

I swear I haven’t forgotten about the blog, but life has been super crazy! So much has gone on in the last month that it is going to take a very long to get you caught up to speed! I promise one soon though, so hang tight! Pretty soon ill be back in the saddle again!

4 Month Check Up

On Friday February 6th, Abigail went in for her 4 month check up and from what the doctor says… “She’s Perfect” (music to a mother and father’s ears). Its so wonderful to see that she is healthy and so very happy. Her current measurements put her weight at 15 pounds and 10 ounces and her length at 25 inches! She is getting big! She had her vaccinations as well and let me tell you… it was hard as a mom not to reach out and smack the nurse who made her cry. But that’s not rational or appropriate! She screamed for both shots, but once she was dressed again and back in her stroller with her blanky and binky… life was good. Shes been a bit crabby and feverish, but thats normal.

Abby is really starting to develop a personality. She knows what gets our attention and how to keep it. She is definitely starting to sit up on her own, although she still needs our help most of the time. She is grabbing everything now and most things end up in her mouth. She seems to be teething a little, although its not too bad thus far. She talks like crazy and I think she has figured out the right octave that can shatter glass! She giggles and smiles a lot, especially when she sees mommy and daddy but most importantly when she sees her bottle! She is such a little angel and I am so blessed that she was given to us. I cant wait to watch as she grows and I cherish each day that passes.

Abby enjoys her binky and supports the Kings during the Ottawa game. She must have been a good luck charm because they won! (The Kings that is).

Abby looks like she is up to no good!

Mommy and Abby just hanging out, based on the look on her face… Abby is close to bedtime!

Mommy tries to get in some kisses, but Abby isnt having it! Its time for bed!
