I just thought this was too cute of a picture not to post. Abby just decided to spend some cuddle time with daddy. What i love even more about this picture is that she is cuddled up in her daddy’s blankie that he had as a child. I love moments like these.

Playoff Ready…
As the Los Angeles Kings move closer and closer to making it to the Playoffs, the first time since the 2001-2002 Season, we have been preparing. Not really but now Abby is in the spirit too! I think she is ready, how about you? Hopefully there will be plenty of cheering for her to do before and during the the Playoffs!
A Quick Jolly Holiday…
After meeting up with a good friend for brunch, Shaun and I decided to continue our day at Disneyland. We were close, it was a eautiful day… WHY NOT??!! Not that I ever need an excuse to go but this provided a great opportunity.
Apparently everyone else on the planet had the same idea because it was beyond busy! I think our annual passes make us a tad spoiled, because this wasn’t ideal to us. We still gave it a shot and told ourselves that we would just enjoy the day, even if we didnt get on any rides. Which we didnt. Even Winnie the Pooh had a 30 minute wait! On top of that Abby had started with allergies or a cold and the windy day was making things worse for her. She started losing her patience and so we threw the towel in and started to head out of the park.
As we hit Main Street, I could see off in the distance something I knew Abby would really love. Mary Poppins, Bert and the Penguins were dancing around with the Piano Man! Once I pointed them out to Abby, she spotted them and was very excited. For those of you that didnt know, Abby’s favorite movie is Mary Poppins. Yes I know, strange for a 1 year old but she has loved it for a long time now. She can sit and watch the whole thing! We stopped to watch them perform and we got a picture from Abby’s point of view. Unfortunately we couldnt get a picture with Mary and Bert because they had closed the line, but we still had fun watching them.
Once they had departed, we made our way to the gate. Shaun, being the big ole softy that he is, got Abby a stuffed toy for her to take home. Abby’s new love is Minnie Mouse ( I think its because of her cool new Minnie Mouse toy at Grandpa and Nana’s house), so she got to choose her own Minnie. Minnie is now one of her best friends, aside from Doggy and she loves her to pieces, as I am sure you will see. It was a special day, despite the crowds.
A Quiet Saturday Evening…
Today was a pretty uneventful Saturday… which is always nice. We get so busy during the week that its nice to not do much other then hang out together. This evening we went over to visit with Grandpa and Nana. Abby had the chance to play outside for a while and of course visit with Tommy the Turtle. After some time outside, we sat down for a lovely dinner which of course ended up all over Abby and then we sat down to watch the Kings game. Lucky for us the Kings won, so no one got hurt! Just Kidding!
Abby, as always, had a wonderful time playing with her big bear, sleeping bag and new Minnie Mouse toy. The Minnie Mouse toy was actually one that belonged to her Aunt Brittany and she loves it. Nana Fiona also picked out some books that belonged to Uncle James and Aunt Brittany and they had a fun time sitting together and reading. Don’t worry though, Abby still enjoyed the hockey game too and it appeared as though she wanted to join in a few times. You will see what mean! All in all it was a nice, quiet Saturday.
The Ability to Play
One of the many wonderful things about being a parent is having the opportunity to watch your child grow and change. I know I have said this many times before. Abby is doing this by leaps and bounds and it truly is incredible to watch.
Today, while waiting for the laundry to finish in the dryer I sat and played with Abby. As always we had a ton of fun, mainly chasing one another around the house. When the dryer stopped, I got up to get everything and then fold clothes on the couch. Usually Abby would follow me around but this time she sat down with her Little People Noah’s Ark and just played. She sat there and played for almost an hour, bouncing the animals around and opening and closing the ark door. She laughed and giggled at things that were part of her inside joke. It was great to see and it made mommy happy to know that she can keep herself occupied for a while.
AAAAA – CCCHHHOOOO!
So I think this one speaks for itself but I will give you a small back story. After stopping to play in the snow and dirt in Big Bear, Shaun and I needed to wipe Abby down with baby wipes. Abby can endure this for only so long before she gets mad at us. So once she is fairly clean I give a wipe of her own to play with and often times she tries to clean her face and hands on her own. So I did this as we started to take off and all of the sudden we heard her playing around in the back of the car with her baby wipe. This is what we saw…
Saturday Drive
Yesterday Shaun and I wanted to take advantage of the beautiful day and decided to go for a drive. Instead of our usual drive up the coast, we decided to do something different and head up to Big Bear. It was cloudy and gloomy as we hit San Bernadino, but as we started to head up the mountain things began to clear. Before we knew it, this was what we saw…

The day was cool and crisp and so relaxing. As we started to climb in elevation, relaxation set in and Abby passed out for a little cat nap. She woke up just as we started to head into Big Bear and well… was a tad out of it. She still looks cute though!

As Abby woke up, Shaun decided to show me a family favorite, the Grizzly Manor. He went there often as a kid and the Wharton family still goes when they are up there. If I remember correctly Auntie Brittany just went not too long ago with friends! After we stopped for a picture, we continued on our way and drove around the lake and started to make our way back home. Abby was just a tad cranky but some string cheese seemed to due the trick. Just don’t bother her while she is eating!

Before actually heading home, we wanted to stop and find a spot where Abby could play in the snow. We stopped at a small trail head and got Abby out of the car ready to play. She was a little wary about the white stuff, at first, but she adjusted quickly. After picking up and thrwing some snow and maiking her first attempts at walking in it, Abby soon found that playing with the dirt all around us was even more fun then the snow. Before I could do anything, she was picking up handfuls and throwing them around. Most of the time though she just let it slide out of her hand as though she was testing the direction of the wind. After some good play time, it as time to pack up and go. Abby wasn’t too filthy, but a bath was definitely on the agenda when we got home!

The drive home was beautiful! Low clouds began to come in and made for a beautiful yet eerie sunset. I loved it and so did Abby. She seemed to love everything and it kept her awake and chatting the whole trip home. Yup, from Big Bear to the San Fernando Valley, sans the last 15 minutes of the drive, Abby chattered, laughed and acted like a little goofball! Mommy and daddy were tired just listening to her. All in all, it was a wonderful Saturday and a great drive! Nothing better then spending some quality time with my two favorite people!
"We’re Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo, How About You, You, You!"
Yesterday Abby and I had the chance to spend the day with Auntie Kenzi, so we decided to head up to the Santa Barbara Zoo. Auntie Kenzi had a quick appointment to take care of on our way up so we stopped for just a moment. As you can tell Abby was enjoying herself and seemed excited, even if she had to wait for a little while in the car. She also had doggy to keep her company as well as some silly gulls that kept flying by!

The weather in Santa Barbara was amazing! It was sunny and warm, around 70 degrees out but there was a fantastic ocean breeze. I don’t think we could have asked for a more perfect day. Because it was a weekday the zoo wasn’t too busy. We had to dodge several large groups taking a personal touo, but other then that, not too many people at all. Our first stop was at the Cabybara exhibit, where there were 4 or 5 new babies. Abby loved them and even tried to offer them a piece of her apple. I had to tell her that it was so nice of her to offer, but they had carrots and lettuce of their own to eat.
After that we stopped at the Vulture exhibit, formerly the home of the Lemurs who now live at a zoo in Colorado, which were my favorite. The Ruppell’s Griffon Vultures came straight from the Serengeti and seemed just a tad hungry! So we decided to move on.

We then stopped to visit the Flamingos. Even though I have seen them a dozen times and have a ton of pictures, its not a zoo visit without them. They are funny creatures to watch and Abby certainly love birds at the moment, so she was more then happy to stop and take a peek.

After waving goodbye to the Flamingos, we made our way down to the Gibbon Monkeys on Gibbon Island. Abby loves Monkeys and I think its because she can relate to them at times. There are usually a pair in the exhibit, one black and one white, but it seemed as though the white one was hiding in its hut. The black one decided to do a little sunbathing on his bridge and well, gave the crowd a lovely shot. Such a lazy, lazy monkey!

Next up was the Snow Leopard and for the first time in quite some time, one of the leopards was out where everyone could see him! He wasn’t doing much, mainly napping on his rock in the sun but usually the two of them are curled up in the back of their enclosure, out of sight and happy as clams. As the Snow Leopard slept, Abby and Auntie Kenzi played a bit making funny sounds. Apparently the Leopard didn’t like the sound too much because he woke up and just stared at us. However, within minutes we was back to snoozing on his rock.

After waking the Snow Leopard up, we headed towards the Penguins… one of my favorites! Luckily we made it just in time for their scheduled feeding and one of the keepers came out to talk about how the Penguins are fed. It was quite interesting! Although Abby seemed to be more interested in the water, rather then the Penguins swimming around. Auntie Kenzi had her work cut out for her, trying to keep Abby from wiggling out of her arms and into the Penguin pool. It was fun to seem a feeding, they were hungry little guys and girls and finished off an entire bucket within minutes!

After the penguin feeding we walked to the top end of the zoo. There we visited the Lions, who were being very lazy and just basking on some rocks and in the grass. Next up were the Giraffes! Abby loves the Giraffes so we certainly could not pass them up. However, most of them seemed to be residing in the back pens away from the public. Only one was out, but he was too busy chowing down on hay to care about us!
After a little time with the Giraffes we headed toward to Gorilla exhibit. Since the existence of the Gorilla enclosure opened, I have yet to see them moving around much. Most of the time we catch them while they are napping in a corner, out of view of the public. Today was different! When we walked up, one of the two males was sitting there right out where we could see him At first he had his back to us but then he turned around for all to see. He looks like he just woke up from a nap! Another male Gorilla was off eating and playing with a burlap bag in another corner, but pretty soon he came out too! Even more exciting, he walked right in front of the glass! Abby was very very close to a Gorilla… thank goodness for that thick glass. Before we moved on, the Gorillas got into a little argument and the one Gorilla stole the burlap bag from the other! What sight it was! Abby really enjoyed it!

Before leaving the zoo we made one last stop at Auntie Kenzi’s favorite place, the Elephants. At that point I decided to get Abby out of her stroller and walk around for a bit. She walked up and had a chat with a few people and then paid some attention to the elephants and the plants surrounding their enclosure. She seemed very excited to be out of her stroller and getting some exercise.

After we said goodbye to the Elephants we made our way back to the car. Abby walked with Auntie Kenzi the entire way and seemed to love every minute of it. Her legs got a great workout and Abby seemed to like the freedom. She did a great job staying with Auntie Kenzi and holding her hand. I was very proud of her.
The walk back must have done Abby in because once we packed up everything into the car and started to leave, Abby was passed out. We had barely pulled out of the parking lot and she had fallen fast asleep. Mackenzie and I decided to head to State Street for lunch, which was well deserved. We were starving! We stopped at CPK and made it most of the way through lunch before Abby woke up. It was made apparent just how tired Abby was when we got out of the car at State Street. She didn’t even flinch as I moved her from her car seat to the stroller! AFter lunch we walked around for a bit and then headed home, Coffee Bean drinks in hand!
The day was wonderful and I couldn’t have asked for anything better! It was so great to finally spend time with my dear friend Mackenzie.
Abby Dance…
Shaun and I feel that Abby might be inclined towards the arts, mainly music and dance. She loves to dance around to music and just today on the way home she was rocking out in the car to “Try a Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding. I wish I had my video camera and could film her because she was hilarious. The crazy thing is that she has rhythm. She can clap and dance and keep in count with the music! I also think she might enjoy singing too. Abby sings her own little songs and if anyone has heard her on a full tantrum knows she has a very healthy and in tune pair of lungs.
Tonight she did a little dance for us and I was able to catch some of it on video. Its with my Blackberry so the quality isn’t great, but its still cute! Enjoy!
Almost a Whole Year and a Half!
On the 1st of March, Abby had her 17 month birthday! Can you believe it!? She is almost a year and a half old! I cannot believe that soon we will be celebrating her second birthday and before that happens she will have a baby brother or sister. Time certainly flies!
Abby is growing and learning so much. She talks all the time and while most of it is still not in a language anyone can understand, she has added a lot of words to her vocabulary. SO far she can say, but is not limited to because my memory is terrible, these words… Jack, Moon, Tree, Kitty, More, Dog, Piggy, Mama, Dada, Grandpa, Nana, Star, Shoes, Fishy, Bye and just last night she said Kings while we were watching the hockey game! That’s our girl! There are more, but its hard to remember them right now.
She understands so much now which is so nice, but now we are hitting some of the reasons for those terrible twos. Mainly the whole concept of “Mommy, Daddy I know what I want, why cant you understand me!!??”. It certainly isnt anything I cannot handle!
Abby is eating like crazy again, which means she is taking another growth spurt. During her last check up Abby had grown quite a bit in length but there wasn’t much of an increase in weight. She is too busy running around everywhere! She burns it all off too fast. I guess we will see what changes she has made at her next big appointment.
Another big change, which mommy loves, is that she Abby now has enough hair to put into piggy tails. Even more important is that she now keeps them in and does not rip them out right away. Her hair isn’t long enough to cut yet and she certainly isnt old enough to sit still long enough to have it cut, so its nice that I can finally do things with her hair to keep it out of her eyes and face.
Abby is growing and changing every day and as far as I am concerned, ups her cute quotient with each passing day as well! She always does something to surprise and amaze me. I cant wait to see what the next few days, weeks, months, and years bring us! We are so blessed!
Think, Think, Think…
Abby loves to read. Well, shes only 16 months so she doesn’t read on her own, but she loves being read to! Every night before bed she pulls loads of books off of her shelf to read. Most of the time you only get half way through a book before she moves on to the next, but there is one book she will read over and over from cover to cover. Thanks to her Auntie Tommie, who bought this book for her when I was only 12 weeks pregnant with Abby, “Goodnight Moon” has become a bedtime staple in our house.
Tonight, Abby started acting out her favorite part of the book… “And an Old Woman whispering, Hush.” She tries to put her finger to her mouth and say “Shhhhhhh”. Sometimes it looks as though she is thinking very hard. Luckily I caught a picture of it! Its too funny! Gotta love kids and the things they pick up on. Its moments like these that make me just want to squeeze Abby forever and never let go. Those moments happen every day all of the time.
Lazy Day at the L.A. Zoo
Shaun and I decided to take Abby to the L.A. Zoo yesterday. We usually go to the Santa Barbara Zoo but since this was a bit of an after thought, we didn’t have the time to drive all of the way up to Santa Barbara.
I haven’t been to the L.A. Zoo in years. It is still a work in progress thats for sure and many of the enclosures for the animals dont allow for kids in strollers to see the animals. I have to say thats where the San Diego Zoo has changed a lot. Hopefully we can go there soon! Abby still had fun and she definitly noticed more of the animals on her own now. She found Reggie the Alligator on her own and was very excited to see him. We also saw Meerkats, Flamingos, Lions, Tigers and Bears… Oh my! As well as some Hippos, Snow Leopards, Koalas, Kangaroos and of course we cannot forget the Giraffes!
It was a lovely day and afterward we drove around through Griffith Park, drove Sunset (where we saw Barney the Dinosaur and he waved at us… no joke!) and then took PCH home. It was a lovely impromptu Saturday out and I loved it!

I posted a few snapshots from the day, but you can check out the slideshow below for more photos!
