Last Day of Dance

Today was the last day of dance. My heart felt a little heavy knowing that not only was this the last day of dance for the year but the last time the girls would take class at the studio. Bittersweet really. Despite my feelings, the girls had a wonderful time and are so excited for recital. Its hard to believe that its only a few days away! The last day of dance also kicks off a whirlwind ride of recitals, trips, time with family, packing and moving. Here we go!

First Day of Dance!

Today was the first day at dance! But for one little girl it wasn’t just the first day back, it was her first day ever! Yup, Ellie took her first dance class today and she loved it.  She did dance a bit but spent time just watching her teachers and the other dancers but that is very much Ellie. She watches and takes everything in when she can. Before we knew it she was off and dancing, trying to do everything she saw. Only time will tell if this is something she continues with.

Abby was very excited and took to it fast, but she already had some experience behind her. Its amazing the difference a year makes and what being in preschool can do. Abby was even more focused, more confident and eager to get right into class and dance. She even knows how to skip already! I was so proud of my little ballerinas today. So glad to be back at dance this year!

Abby’s First Dance Recital!

As I sit here writing this, I cannot help but smile. I think I am beaming from ear to ear. Tonight was Abby’s very first dance recital and I don’t think Shaun and I could be more proud of our little girl! She did an amazing job and even though I had my doubts this morning at stage rehearsal about whether or not she would dance at all, she did!
Grandma Denise, Granpa Jerry, Auntie Jillian, Grandpa Pat, Grandma Zoe, myself and Shaun were all there to cheer her on. When I dropped her off backstage with her class and the babysitters she started to get upset that I was leaving but soon calmed down and then ran off to play, saying goodbye as an after thought. Looking back I think she got upset at first because one of the younger little dancers in her class was crying. I took my seat with the family and waited anxiously to see just what would happen. We caught a glimpse of Abby in the show opener and then had to wait until her dances came along. Lucky for us, Jason and Lisa (our cousins) had their daughters dancing that night. We had the chance to see Kayla and Lily dance and boy have they grown. Both girls are very talented and I see dance in their future.
Abby’s ballet dance, “Ballerina Kisses” was first and she was so cute. Before they came on stage, Abby and her friend Victoria could be seen peaking out from the curtains. I honestly think they were looking for all of us, assuming all of our families would be in the same spot watching just like we do at the studio. When it was time to dance, Abby did a fantastic job and danced every step. It cane be hard to tell with Abby, but I could see that she was having a great time, which made me smile the most.

Later in the show Abby did her tap dance, “Six Little Ducks”… what a riot! For many years at Bobbie’s, the youngest dancers at the studio were ducks for recital. It was like a rite of passage. I was so happy to see that Abby had the chance to be a duck too and she did a perfect job. She really knew what she was doing and had a lot of fun doing it. I think all of us were laughing and smiling at our cute little duck on stage.

“Six Little Ducks that I once knew, fat ones, skinny ones, cute ones too!”

Keep on Quackin’!

Taking a final bow during the finale! Its a great shot because Kayla is standing just behind Abby!

So cute

Abby and Bobbie. Bobbie is the owner of the studio and someone very special to me, my family and now my children.

When the show was over Abby was spoiled with lots of hugs, kisses and more flowers then I have seen in a long time. She was so excited and very proud of how she danced. I learned from Bobbie, Judith and some of the backstage babysitters that each time Abby came off of stage she wanted to know when she could go back on. I think someone likes the spotlight! She would have also been happy just sitting in the wings watching the dances. And here I was worried that they would be able to get her out on stage!

No matter what, the evening was perfect and we are so proud of Abby. From what I can tell, she cant wait until next year to do it all again!

A Ducky Preview…

Here is a little preview of Abby’s tap dance for her first recital… yup, shes a duck! And a really cute one at that too. PS, thanks Grandma and Grandpa Taylor for the tutu. We bought this back when Abby was only a year and a half on a trip up to visit them and we actually get to use it!

Ellie Loves to Dance Too!

This video actually took place at the beginning of February, but I didn’t want it to get lost in the rest of my posts. Ellie loves watching Abby dance and most of the time its a complete meltdown when I have to remove Ellie from the room when I change Abby from her ballet shoes to her tap shoes. On this day, Bobbie gave Ellie the chance to dance with the girls for a bit and she jumped right in. Looks like me might be starting Ellie in lessons next year too!

A Little Bit of Dance

After the first day of dance fiasco, Abby returned and is loving every minute of it! Her class is small, with only three other girls in it. Today two of the girls were absent so she had the chance to do a semi private lesson with Bobbie. Today was a great class and Abby had a lot of fun. I just thought I would share a little clip from class today. Too cute if you ask me!

Abby’s First Ballet Class!!

Today was Abby’s first day at dance! She has been asking us for a few months now about taking ballet. I swear I had nothing to do with this! I think its the Angelina Ballerina cartoons she watches. Abby was so excited to get dressed in her leotard and ballet skirt. I couldn’t contain her excitement.

Based on the pictures you would think the day was perfect! But unfortunately during the first five minutes of class, the music came on very loud and it scared Abby. New place, new activity, new people and then the music startling her took all that excited energy and before I knew it she was a bawling mess in my lap. For the rest of class Abby sat in my lap upset and stubborn as a mule. Not sure where she gets that from, but I am sure by next week it will pass. Despite all of that, she sure looked cute in her ballet outfit. Here is to a new week!
