Brave Little Trooper

Mommy was a meanie and made poor Ellie go in for her 4 year check up at the doctors office. That wasn’t the bad part though…. it was the vaccinations that she received that made mommy the bad guy. Lucky for me, she was a brave little trooper and I had an easy time taking her for ice cream afterwards. After some crazy colored and overly sugary stuff, the shots were all but forgotten and mommy wasn’t so mean anymore. Thanks 31 Flavors!

Surgery Update

So my appointment for Tuesday was canceled! My doctor was sick and could not be in for his appointments. Luckily he was able to reschedule for today and I couldn’t have been happier. Those tubes were ready to come out and when they did what  a difference! I can actually breathe through my nose! I have to rinse my sinuses three times a day (that is an interesting experience) but I can actually breathe! I can say without a doubt that this surgery was worth every painful moment as well as every penny. So great!

Ellie’s Two Year Check Up

Ellie went in to see Dr. Calig today for her two year check up. It was a longer wait then normal but the girls were great! Abby made a new friend in the waiting room and Ellie found a few magazines to look at and of course attempt to tear apart.

Her check up went well and everything, according to Dr. Calig is great! She is very happy, healthy and doing a great job when it comes to growing. Just to show you how well she is growing, here are her stats:

Ellie’s Two Year Stats
Weight: 30 Pounds
Height: 36 Inches Tall
Ellie has grown a lot in 6 months. She is in the 98th percentile for both height and weight and doesn’t show any signs of changing. She is my skinny girl but we think she will be tall too! Ellie lucked out with this appointment as well. No vaccines today just a prick of her finger for some blood work and a poke on the arm for the TB test. She still wasn’t happy about it but it could have been worse. It wasn’t anything a few stickers couldn’t fix! Always glad to see that my girls are happy and healthy. No more doctor for another six months unless we get sick, but maybe we can make it a goal to stay away until then!

18 Months and A Check Up

Its a little belated, but I wanted to give Ellie an official Happy 18 months! Ellie was lucky and got to spend the mid year mark celebrating the new year in Montana with the family. We went to the doctor today for her check up and Ellie looks wonderful! Her stats are as follows:

Ellie’s 18 Month Stats:
Weight: 27 Pounds 4 ounces
Length: 33 Inches

Ellie received a few vaccines today and boy is this kid smart. The minute we sat her up and the nurse cleaned her arm off with the rubbing alcohol, she knew what was about to happen and was not thrilled with me. Poor kiddo. She cried but was still a good little trooper. Abby was with us and when Ellie was all dressed, Abby came up and gave her a big hug. She told Ellie that everything was ok and that she was a very brave little girl. Talk about tugging on my heartstrings! If only they were this nice to each other all of the time!

Ellie is growing and changing everyday. With every week that passes, Ellie is talking more and more. Her vocabualry has grown considerably and we can actually understand more of what she says. She is starting to form three to four words sentences but also seems to understand more of what we say to her. Ellie is still working on getting her teeth those first molars and her little canines just seem to be taking their time to grow in. Ellie is also starting to show some interest in the potty! Good Lord I cannot wait to start potty training her. Thanks to her sister, I have a feeling this time around will be quick. Ellie looks up to Abby and wants to do everything she does. Lets hope this applies to using the potty as well!

Doctor Check-Ups and Growing Up

Turning a year old comes with a lot of perks. Cake, presents, lots of hugs and kisses from family and friends. And then, there is the one year check up at the doctors office. We woke up early and headed in to see Susie, the wonderful office PA. After a good check, Ellie looked great! We only had one issue regarding her tummy, but Susie felt it was because she had just had something to eat. We will go back in 2 weeks just to make sure. As for how Ellie is growing, here are her stats.

Ellie’s 1 Year Stats
Weight: 22 Pounds 12 Ounces
Height: 31 Inches

Ellie gained some weight but dropped to the 50th percentile, I am not shocked though because she has been growing and eating like a bottomless pit. In height, however, she has grown nearly 3 inches since her 9 month appointment. She is now in the 98th percentile for her height. I think we are going to have a tall and skinny girl on our hands. I guess we will see what happens as time goes on!

Ellie keeps growing and growing! The changes she has made in the last few months have been incredible. She is walking like a pro now and more and more of her personality is coming through. She is a big cuddle bug who loves her time with mommy… and daddy too. Ellie loves to talk and sing. At times I can hear her trying to sing the Alphabet song as well as Old McDonald. She may not know the words yet, but she certainly has the melody. As for words, she has said a few things…

Gog = Dog
Raff = Giraffe
Guck = Duck
Uh Oh

All stages in life are fun, but I do enjoy watching and listening as words and sentences are spoken. Finally breaking some communication barriers. I look forward to the next few months and cannot wait to share all of those moments.

Some of April… Where Did it Go?

April… we are a little more then half way through… where has it gone! Boy has that month flown by and its mainly because we have been so busy. What have the Wharton’s been up to? Well lets see…

On the first of April Ellie turned 9 months old. My how she is growing. She crawls like a pro and is standing up whenever she gets the chance. I personally think that by mid-May she will be taking her first steps and then I will never hear the end of it. Ellie chatters like crazy and thanks to her big sister, she has learned how to scream like a banshee! And that scream could shatter glass too!

Ellie also saw Dr. Calig for her 9 Month check up and she is doing very well. Healthy as can be! Her scream is so ear piercing you would have never known she was down with Whooping Cough at 6 weeks old. She has grown a lot in weight and length since her last appointment. Can’t she just stay a tiny little peanut forever!?

Ellie’s 9 Month Stats
Weight: 21 Pounds 9 Ounces
Height: 28 1/2 Inches

All of April has pretty crazy for us. Between prepping and making some major changes in our lives (more to come on that later), we did find the time to sneak a few moments of fun into the month. On the 19th, Shaun surprised me with tickets to my very first Stanley Cup playoffs game. We had the chance to go to the first home game (Game 3, Round 1) and support our Kings. The game didnt end the way we had hoped for, but it was still fun nonetheless. Maybe next year we will be watching the Kings in the finals?

Despite the loss, Shaun and I had a great time. We even had the chance to see Marty McSorley during the rally before the game began. The energy during a playoff game is so intense but everyone was in a great mood and ready for a fun night. I can only hope to go again next year! Now that the fun is over, its back to reality and to lots of work ahead of us.

Happy 6 Months Ellie!

During our trip to Montana, on New Years day in fact, Ellie turned 6 months old! She is already half way to one year! Once again I will say it…. time flies! She is growing so much and so quickly. Is there any way to stop time?

Today Ellie went in for her 6 month check up and once again passed with flying colors. Susie said she looked great and was quite impressed with her strength. It looks as though Ellie is pretty much healed and past her bout with Pertussis. She will still have a cough from time to time, but that will go away and pretty much has at this point. She has grown a lot in the last 2 months and I definitely can tell every time I pick her up or try to dress her and have to retire yet another outfit.

Ellie’s 6 Month Stats
Weight: 17 Pounds 15 Ounces
Length: 27 Inches

Along with growing, Ellie is learning a lot developmentally. She is reaching and grabbing anything in sight. Ellie babbles and talks a lot and she does it with a great amount of volume. She says “BA BA BA” and “DA DA DA” a lot. When she is very hungry she will say BA BA, which gives me the thought that she does understand the meaning. I contribute her elevated volume to very well developed lungs and to her big sister, who insists on screaming at the top of her lungs at just about anything.

Ellie is rolling around like crazy and right now is trying very hard to get up on her knees to crawl. Give it a month and she will be crawling all over the place! Lord help me when she does start! I have been thinking about how much I wished Ellie was more mobile and entertained on her own more, and now that its quickly approaching I might be rethinking that.

Every day this little girl makes me smile and the bond that she and Abby seem to have puts a smile on my face and the occasional tears of happiness in my eyes. I know that they will fight like cats and dogs as they get older, but I also know that they will share something that only two sisters can share, just like Jillian and I do. I can see the love they have for one another and Abby is such a great big sister. I feel so very blessed. Happy 6 month birthday Ellie!

Ellie Is 4 Months!!

Yet another month slips by us and now Ellie is 4 months old. Its really hard to believe. She has changed so much in just a months time. She is smiling a lot and now even giggles. They are still little giggles, not the belly laughs that I love yet but she is such a happy baby. As I am sure you can see in pictures, those blue eyes have not changed yet. In fact they seem to just get lighter and lighter.

Ellie is also very strong and wants to move around. For those of you who have held her in the last little bit, you know what I mean! We bought her a Bumbo chair for her to sit up in and learn to sit on her own, but that ended up back at Target after she nearly pushed herself out of it. Even though it seemed a little bit early, we then decided to invest in a play center for her. While I know she wishes she could run and jump right along side her sister, the play center allows her to be more of a part of things and interact with everyone until she can do it all on her own. I predict though, that she will be an early walker.

Ellie is also starting to try and grab at things. While she hasn’t quite learned to grip toys yet, she is trying. I will say, however, that she knows just the right way to grab hair and skin and twist it and pull it in just the perfect way to hurt. Her grip is a strong one!

Ellie also went in for her 4 month check up today. Despite her issues at 6 weeks old with Pertussis, she is doing great. She still coughs a bit because her lungs are still healing after the damage done by whooping cough, but she is a picture of perfect health now. Dr. Calig says so! We are so blessed and thankful that she is doing so well.

Ellie’s 4 Month Stats
Weight: 14 Pounds, 4 Ounces
Length: 25 and 1/4 Inches

Ellie is growing well and at a rate that she should be. She is a big girl in the fact that she is long. She is skinny and long. I am still waiting for chunkier thighs to come, but it hasn’t happened yet. Looking back at Abby’s stats, Ellie is is nearly an inch longer then Abby was at 4 Months but Abby definitely had her beat in weight. Its so much fun to see the differences between the two and all the changes that happen!

More Milestones and Updates

Today we took both Abby and Ellie in for their check-ups (2 Year and 3 Month). Abby hasn’t been since she was 18 months, but she seemed to remember it pretty well and better yet, didn’t seem too apprehensive about it. As we sat in the Well Child Waiting Room, Abby met a friend and they played and chattered as we waited. And we waited for quite some time. Unfortunately I made the appointment for a Monday and it was a zoo! Monday walk-in hours are miserable, even if you are one of the lucky ones waiting for an appointment.

When we were finally called in Abby was still happy and calm. Shaun and I were both very proud. Dr. Calig took a look at Ellie first. Once again she received a clean bill of health and her chest and lungs still sound clear. Always good news!

We then placed Abby up on the table to be looked over. Dr. Calig checked her heart, her ears, her throat and more. Abby sat still for all of it and even giggled a few times. She too recieved a clean bill of health from Dr. Calig. Then came the part that I was truly dreading, her vaccinations. She received 4 of them today and I was super worried that she would flip out as she does with so many little things these days. I had talked with her about them and didn’t hide the fact that she was getting some shots today, not that she really knew what that meant. But when it came down to it, Abby was amazing! She didn’t even flinch and there wasn’t a single tear shed! I couldn’t have been more proud of her and more relieved all at the same time. What I thought would be a rough day at the doctors office turned out great! Shaun and I are so blessed to have two healthy little girls.

Since they are both growing so fast, here are some of their stats!

Ellie’s Three Month Stats
Weight: 12 Pounds 13 Ounces
Length: 24 and 1/4 Inches

Ellie has gained nearly a pound in one month and grown a quarter of an inch. It doesnt seem like a lot but for an infant that is, in both respects. Abby and Ellie are such different babies. At 3 months Abby was 13 pounds 9 ounces and 23 1/2 inches, so now Ellie is slowing on her weight gain a bit but still measures longer then Abby did. Ellie is now smiling, cooing, and chattering with us a lot. She has on several occasions rolled from her tummy to her back and is lifting her head very well in all situations, including tummy time. She is growing and changing all of the time, its so hard to believe! I am sure there will be a lot more to tell in just a months time!

Abby’s Two Year Stats
Weight: 31 Pounds
Height: 34 and 3/4 Inches

Abby is growing so fast as well. I swear she gets taller and taller each day. She is such a happy a cuddly little girl. We have our terrible two moments, but its nothing we cant handle and certainly something she will eventually grow out of. Abby loves to sing and has a remarkable ability to remember songs, mainly the tune of a song. The words still come and go but she knows the tune. She loves to sing her ABC’s, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Fruit Salad by the Wiggles, Rock A Bye Your Bear by the Wiggles and quite a few more. Abby can also count to 10 and loves to show her knowledge of animal sounds and body parts. Currently she likes to show off her belly button to strangers when we are out shopping and I think sometimes those strangers think they are being flashed by a two year old if they don’t pay attention to what Abby is saying.

Boy do they change a lot in such a short time and learn so much. Thats why this age is so bittersweet. You can see them changing and learning and gaining even more of a personality but it all happens so fast. Before I know it, both girls will be off to college! Until then I will enjoy each and every moment that I have with them!

Two Months and One Month Shy of Two…

And another month has passed by quickly, although August flew even faster due to Ellie’s time in the hospital. It has barely been a week since she left, but she is doing very well. She continues to cough but they are shorter episodes and she never seems to have a problem catching her breath. At night she will cough in her sleep and it never seems to wake her up. That is a huge deal not just for her but for us.

Ellie, with the exception of a few nights here and there, is starting to sleep completely through the night. Often times she sleeps about 9 hours which is heavenly for us. It feels like those nights of barely two hour stretches are so far behind us. She is growing an changing each and every day. She smiles a lot now and is trying to coo and talk to us. She even tries to mimic Shaun when he sticks his tongue out at her. Its pretty funny if you ask me.

Ellie’s 2 month check up was today. Dr. Calig checked her lungs and so far so good… they sound clear. She is definitely on the mend. Everything else checked out with flying colors. Once again, she is a healthy baby. She received her DTaP vaccine as well as two others, so there was some crying involved and I am sure some crankiness to follow, but I am prepared. Its al worth it for a happy and healthy little girl.

Two Month Stats
Weight: 11 Pounds 4 Ounces
Length: 24 Inches
(Ellie has gained nearly 2 pounds since her last check up and grown almost 3 inches in length. She has now hit the 95th percentile for length… There must be miracle grow in my milk.)

This month also brings something special for Abby as well… Her LAST month as a one year old! This I really cannot believe and almost feel as though I am in a bit of denial. Next month Abby turns 2! Has it really been a year already?! Looking back at pictures from her first birthday and even from this past spring makes me realize how much she has grown and changed. She has changed more from one to two then she did from birth to one. Her looks, features, personality, mannerisms, and more. Abby can speak in nearly full sentences, she learns and understands things even without mommy or daddy teaching them, she is a parrot and says anything she hears and she definitely knows how to test our patience. Its those terrible twos! She isn’t too bad though and most tantrums only last a minute or two when she actually has them.

Abby has adapted well to having a sister and while there are moments of jealousy, they are short lived and Abby is on to kissing and loving her little sister. She tells mommy when Ellie is crying, gets concerned when Ellie is upset, laughs at her when she has the hiccups and likes to play with Ellie’s little toes. Ellie seems enamored with Abby too and often calms down and talks when she sees Abby. They have a bond already and that makes Shaun and I so very proud. Even though it can be tough at times having two little ones, watching them and knowing the special bond sisters can have makes all the difficult times melt away.

One Month and Two Months Shy of Two…

Ellie is now a month old and Abby is now one year and 10 months old, only two months away from from her second birthday. Both girls are changing so quickly… Is there any way to make time stop?

Today we celebrated those milestones with Grandma Zoe, who also celebrated a birthday as well. As I have sworn to live by the girl code, I will not reveal a ladies age. But we celebrated her 25th birthday… *wink*. The evening was relaxed. Shaun had planned to cook but because of the vaccine he received on Friday ( gotta keep Ellie protected from Pertussis, AKA Whooping Cough) he was not feeling all that great. Instead we ordered from Maria’s Kitchen, yummy and celebrated with an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins… even yummier! We had a very lovely evening.

Ellie has been growing stronger and bigger with each and every day that passes. She is smiling now too! No, its not gas. They are actual smiles which are a result of an action.. generally mommy or daddy acting super ridiculous. I have been trying to catch a picture of her for the last few days now, but haven’t been successful. Luckily she cooperated today and I was able to capture it! She is going to have a beautiful smile just like her sister.

Ellie went in for her doctors appointment on Friday and passed with flying colors. Susie, the PA, was amazed at how strong Ellie is. While testing her strength, Susie had Ellie grab her fingers and at this point she usually pulls the little up a bit. Instead, Ellie pulled herself up. We have a another strong one on our hands! Ellie has gained plenty of weight and grown in length. As a nursing mother, this is music to my ears. Just when it seems as though I am not providing enough for my child, I receive confirmation that I am doing well and she is getting what she needs. That certainly makes my day.

One Month Stats
Weight: 9 Pounds 5 Ounces
Length: 21 1/2 Inches
(Ellie has gained almost a pound and grown half an inch in two weeks)
Finally captured that adorable little smile. What a beautiful girl…. I am a bit biased.

Playing on her monkey mat, trying to figure out how she can get to the monkey swinging above her.

Still thinking about how to get that monkey…

Abby has grown so much too. I swear that in the 5 days I was in the hospital she changed into a whole new person. When Shaun wheeled her in to our room in her stroller the night before we were discharged, there was something different. She held on tightly to her new Woody toy and had a new sparkle in her eye. The sparkle of a little girl who was now a big sister and her mommies little helper. She has been a wonderful help to mommy and has learned her first chore, laundry! Ok so its not a lot, but its so sweet. Abby helps me put the clothes into the washing machine, making sure to separate each item before she puts them in and with a little guidance, presses the start button. Before I know it… she will be doing her own laundry. Until then I will relish in the little moments like this.

My sweet and beautiful little girl… She always makes me smile. How could a face like that not make you smile?

Our pretty, pretty princess… love those big baby blues!

Two Weeks Old….

It is so hard to believe, but Ellie is now two weeks old and changing so fast. She is growing by leaps and bounds and I want it to stop already! Time is flying and I think because I am only 2 weeks post partum, I am actually having a hard time dealing with it.

May parents left to head back home this past weekend and that was a very difficult day for me. Having them here made me so very happy and because I was unable to do much because of my C-Section, I had the chance to spend some quality time with them. Something I don’t get to do much of anymore… mainly because they are over 1,000 miles away from here! They did have a safe trip home and on Sunday even decided to take a detour home through Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone. Needless to say, I was very jealous.

On a very bright note, Jillian stayed even longer to help out and she has done great job. Abby is loving having Auntie J around. I am honestly not sure what is going to happen when she has to leave next week. Poor Shaun might have two girls sobbing in the car on the way home from the airport.

Ellie has been doing great and hasn’t tortured her parents too much. She has given us a few long nights, but this is to be expected. We have had a few segments of sleep that have lasted more then 2 and a half hours, so things are looking up! With each waking I remind myself that things change quickly and soon we will have lots of rest. That could just be wishful thinking too! Here is hoping for the best!

This past weekend we also took our first trip out to the Topanga Mall and Target. The trip only lasted about two hours but it was needed. I was starting to go a bit stir crazy and being inside constantly was giving me a bit of the baby blues. My friend Morgan suggested I get out, even if only for an hour, and walk around somewhere. So I did… and it made a huge difference.

Ellie also had her 2 week check up and once again passed with flying colors. She has a slight issue with an obstructed tear duct but its something that just passes with time. Abby had the same issue as a baby too. Its common in C-Section babies, as they don’t undergo the immense pressure of traveling through the birth canal. A little medical information for those that might be interested 🙂 She is growing well and gaining plenty of weight like she should be.

Two Week Stats
Weight: 8 Pounds 8 Ounces
Length: 21 Inches
(In 2 Weeks Ellie has gained nearly 1 pound 3 ounces in weight and grown half and inch in length! This includes the weight she regained after the typical drop in the first few days after birth.)

Baby Ellie feet… so tiny, skinny and long! She likes to curl and then spread out her toes, like a cat does when its stretching.

Ellie relaxing in her bouncer, sporting her cute outfit from Baby Gap. The shorts barely stay on, but I had to put her in this outfit! I am sure she will eventually grow into it.

Daddy and Ellie snuggle at the Red Robin in Glendale. It was Ellie’s first and last trip for a while to a sit down restaurant.
