It is so hard to believe, but Ellie is now two weeks old and changing so fast. She is growing by leaps and bounds and I want it to stop already! Time is flying and I think because I am only 2 weeks post partum, I am actually having a hard time dealing with it.
May parents left to head back home this past weekend and that was a very difficult day for me. Having them here made me so very happy and because I was unable to do much because of my C-Section, I had the chance to spend some quality time with them. Something I don’t get to do much of anymore… mainly because they are over 1,000 miles away from here! They did have a safe trip home and on Sunday even decided to take a detour home through Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone. Needless to say, I was very jealous.
On a very bright note, Jillian stayed even longer to help out and she has done great job. Abby is loving having Auntie J around. I am honestly not sure what is going to happen when she has to leave next week. Poor Shaun might have two girls sobbing in the car on the way home from the airport.
Ellie has been doing great and hasn’t tortured her parents too much. She has given us a few long nights, but this is to be expected. We have had a few segments of sleep that have lasted more then 2 and a half hours, so things are looking up! With each waking I remind myself that things change quickly and soon we will have lots of rest. That could just be wishful thinking too! Here is hoping for the best!
This past weekend we also took our first trip out to the Topanga Mall and Target. The trip only lasted about two hours but it was needed. I was starting to go a bit stir crazy and being inside constantly was giving me a bit of the baby blues. My friend Morgan suggested I get out, even if only for an hour, and walk around somewhere. So I did… and it made a huge difference.
Ellie also had her 2 week check up and once again passed with flying colors. She has a slight issue with an obstructed tear duct but its something that just passes with time. Abby had the same issue as a baby too. Its common in C-Section babies, as they don’t undergo the immense pressure of traveling through the birth canal. A little medical information for those that might be interested 🙂 She is growing well and gaining plenty of weight like she should be.
Baby Ellie feet… so tiny, skinny and long! She likes to curl and then spread out her toes, like a cat does when its stretching.
Ellie relaxing in her bouncer, sporting her cute outfit from Baby Gap. The shorts barely stay on, but I had to put her in this outfit! I am sure she will eventually grow into it.

Daddy and Ellie snuggle at the Red Robin in Glendale. It was Ellie’s first and last trip for a while to a sit down restaurant.
During our stay in the hospital, Ellie and I had a few visitors. Of course, Grandma and Grandpa Taylor, Grandma Zoe and Grandpa Pat and Nana Fiona came to visit… they are grandparents! And of course Auntie Jillian came to visit too… just not as often due to the fact that she was helping us out by watching Abby. I don’t have many pictures of these visitors, so I apologize. When they came to visit I was distracted talking and spending time with them and even my dad, who was taking pictures for me, would get distracted too. Hmmmm, I wonder why?
I also had a few other people visit, one of which being my dear friend Mackenzie or Auntie Kenzi to the girls. Kenzi came to visit the night Ellie was born but also came on Saturday to spend time with us as well. She was beyond sweet and brought us a fantastic homemade dinner. She made us homemade Mac N Cheese (which was amazing), caesar salad, garlic bread and a yummy 4th of July cake! I know Shaun enjoyed her dinner very much, which was a wonderful change from the hospital food he had been eating. We talked and enjoyed each others company, which was very special to me. Before we knew it, it was 10:30pm and visiting hours had ended nearly two hours beforehand. Luckily the nurses that night were very cool and didn’t seem to care!
Another dear friend and someone I called Aunt growing up came to visit as well. On Saturday afternoon, Barbara and Mike stopped by to meet our cute little girl and we had the chance to visit with them and catch up. They had a great time visiting and I so very much enjoyed having them there. As always I am more then happy to share the love and excitement of a new baby with family and friends.
Yesterday Abby and I had the chance to spend the day with Auntie Kenzi, so we decided to head up to the Santa Barbara Zoo. Auntie Kenzi had a quick appointment to take care of on our way up so we stopped for just a moment. As you can tell Abby was enjoying herself and seemed excited, even if she had to wait for a little while in the car. She also had doggy to keep her company as well as some silly gulls that kept flying by!

The weather in Santa Barbara was amazing! It was sunny and warm, around 70 degrees out but there was a fantastic ocean breeze. I don’t think we could have asked for a more perfect day. Because it was a weekday the zoo wasn’t too busy. We had to dodge several large groups taking a personal touo, but other then that, not too many people at all. Our first stop was at the Cabybara exhibit, where there were 4 or 5 new babies. Abby loved them and even tried to offer them a piece of her apple. I had to tell her that it was so nice of her to offer, but they had carrots and lettuce of their own to eat.
After that we stopped at the Vulture exhibit, formerly the home of the Lemurs who now live at a zoo in Colorado, which were my favorite. The Ruppell’s Griffon Vultures came straight from the Serengeti and seemed just a tad hungry! So we decided to move on.

We then stopped to visit the Flamingos. Even though I have seen them a dozen times and have a ton of pictures, its not a zoo visit without them. They are funny creatures to watch and Abby certainly love birds at the moment, so she was more then happy to stop and take a peek.

After waving goodbye to the Flamingos, we made our way down to the Gibbon Monkeys on Gibbon Island. Abby loves Monkeys and I think its because she can relate to them at times. There are usually a pair in the exhibit, one black and one white, but it seemed as though the white one was hiding in its hut. The black one decided to do a little sunbathing on his bridge and well, gave the crowd a lovely shot. Such a lazy, lazy monkey!

Next up was the Snow Leopard and for the first time in quite some time, one of the leopards was out where everyone could see him! He wasn’t doing much, mainly napping on his rock in the sun but usually the two of them are curled up in the back of their enclosure, out of sight and happy as clams. As the Snow Leopard slept, Abby and Auntie Kenzi played a bit making funny sounds. Apparently the Leopard didn’t like the sound too much because he woke up and just stared at us. However, within minutes we was back to snoozing on his rock.

After waking the Snow Leopard up, we headed towards the Penguins… one of my favorites! Luckily we made it just in time for their scheduled feeding and one of the keepers came out to talk about how the Penguins are fed. It was quite interesting! Although Abby seemed to be more interested in the water, rather then the Penguins swimming around. Auntie Kenzi had her work cut out for her, trying to keep Abby from wiggling out of her arms and into the Penguin pool. It was fun to seem a feeding, they were hungry little guys and girls and finished off an entire bucket within minutes!

After the penguin feeding we walked to the top end of the zoo. There we visited the Lions, who were being very lazy and just basking on some rocks and in the grass. Next up were the Giraffes! Abby loves the Giraffes so we certainly could not pass them up. However, most of them seemed to be residing in the back pens away from the public. Only one was out, but he was too busy chowing down on hay to care about us!
After a little time with the Giraffes we headed toward to Gorilla exhibit. Since the existence of the Gorilla enclosure opened, I have yet to see them moving around much. Most of the time we catch them while they are napping in a corner, out of view of the public. Today was different! When we walked up, one of the two males was sitting there right out where we could see him At first he had his back to us but then he turned around for all to see. He looks like he just woke up from a nap! Another male Gorilla was off eating and playing with a burlap bag in another corner, but pretty soon he came out too! Even more exciting, he walked right in front of the glass! Abby was very very close to a Gorilla… thank goodness for that thick glass. Before we moved on, the Gorillas got into a little argument and the one Gorilla stole the burlap bag from the other! What sight it was! Abby really enjoyed it!

Before leaving the zoo we made one last stop at Auntie Kenzi’s favorite place, the Elephants. At that point I decided to get Abby out of her stroller and walk around for a bit. She walked up and had a chat with a few people and then paid some attention to the elephants and the plants surrounding their enclosure. She seemed very excited to be out of her stroller and getting some exercise.

After we said goodbye to the Elephants we made our way back to the car. Abby walked with Auntie Kenzi the entire way and seemed to love every minute of it. Her legs got a great workout and Abby seemed to like the freedom. She did a great job staying with Auntie Kenzi and holding her hand. I was very proud of her.
The walk back must have done Abby in because once we packed up everything into the car and started to leave, Abby was passed out. We had barely pulled out of the parking lot and she had fallen fast asleep. Mackenzie and I decided to head to State Street for lunch, which was well deserved. We were starving! We stopped at CPK and made it most of the way through lunch before Abby woke up. It was made apparent just how tired Abby was when we got out of the car at State Street. She didn’t even flinch as I moved her from her car seat to the stroller! AFter lunch we walked around for a bit and then headed home, Coffee Bean drinks in hand!
The day was wonderful and I couldn’t have asked for anything better! It was so great to finally spend time with my dear friend Mackenzie.
Our Halloween was a pretty relaxed and comfortable day. The morning and afternoon was spent running some important errands and for Abby, the afternoon was spent napping before fun time.

Once she was up from her nap, Abby was ready to get dressed for Halloween. It was the first time we have dressed her in a costume and thought it would be fitting to have her dress as a pumpkin. She looked adorable!
We knew Abby was still too young for Trick Or Treating, but luckily her friend Harrison and our friends Byron and Erika were having a Halloween Party and we were invited! We had a wonderful time and Abby seemed to be having a fun time hanging out with Harrison and well, the balloons. Erika did an amazing job! She made the cake herself and the treats and food were amazing… all Halloween themed. Ghost Toast, Graveyard 6 layer dip, and much much more.
After the party we stopped by Grandma Zoe’s house and enjoyed some chili and the rest of the Halloween evening. It was a wonderful night and Abby had a blast. I know we cant wait until next year when Abby is a little bit older and might understand it a bit more!
After deciding not to go to my 10 year reunion, which is a whole story I don’t intend to tell, my friend Morgan invited me to her moms house for a little reunion of our own. This was truly my idea of a reunion. Having the chance to see people you knew well and spent time with. The people you have many wonderful memories with.
I had the opportunity to see Morgan and her two beautiful girls Devan and Lilah, Allyson, Ruth and her beautiful girls Ashley and Kate, Jackie, and Stacey. It was amazing to sit there and watch the kids play and catch up. Share memories we have of one another and swap mommy stories. Devan and Abby seemed to hit it off and before you knew it they were playing and giggling and screaming in delight. Thank you Devan, Abby is sleeping very well tonight! It was the best reunion I could have asked for!
And just wait ladies… I found a few of my old photo albums! I might just have to step back 10+ years and take a walk down memory lane! Thank you ladies, I had a wonderful time. I cant believe its been ten years. Lets keep in touch and make sure that we don’t wait so long this time.
This past weekend was fun and packed with plenty to do, but relaxing all at the same time. Is that actually possible? Or is it just that it wasn’t quite as busy as the last few months so it seemed relaxing? Who knows, but it was fun and certainly enjoyable. I know that despite still having a bit of a cold, Abby had fun as well!

On Saturday the three of us headed to Chase’s First Birthday Party. I cant believe he is one! The party was a fun Pirates theme and the weather that day certainly gave us the feeling of a tropical island. Unfortunately it was about 89 degrees in Camarillo and just as humid! Because Abby was still recovering from the sniffles we couldn’t stay long as the heat was bothering her too much. We did have the chance however, to watch Chase enjoy his birthday cake and watch a very cute slide show that Stephanie, Chase’s Aunt and my friend, had made. Boy oh boy do they grow fast. I think the one thing that Abby enjoyed most about the party was the watermelon… Yummy! Its no surprise considering that the one thing I craved the most when I was pregnant with her.

When we left the party, Shaun and I decided to head out to Ventura where it was definitely cooler and enjoy some time at the Harvest Festival. Abby had the chance to nap a bit, Shaun and I had the chance to eat and we certainly found some great things to take home with us. I have to say most of it was food related! Dips, Jerky, Tea and Cocoa mix. And its all very yummy too! We had a great time, cooled off and enjoyed the nice ocean breeze. It was also nice to enjoy something that I used to do every year with my parents and sister when I was younger.

After leaving the Harvest Festival, Shaun decided it would be nice to take a drive along the coast up to Santa Barbara and then head home. Abby passed out the minute we started driving and the sun was close to setting. What a beautiful drive! Its the scenes like that one below that remind me why we moved back to California. It was a perfect sunset and a wonderful drive. It didnt hurt to stop at Fosters Freeze for some ice cream and then Ottavio’s in Camarillo for dinner. A perfect end to a lovely day!

Sunday was relaxed and time was spent visiting. Grandma Pat had been in town since Abby’s party and we wanted to see her before she had to head back to Pocatello, Idaho. After shopping for Abby’s Halloween Costume (thats a secret until Halloween) we went to Mary and Tom’s to visit with Great-Grandma Pat, Mary, Tom, Grandpa, Nana, Uncle James and his girlfriend Samantha. Time was spent chatting away and just enjoying each others company. Abby tried her hand at walking… but it didnt quite happen. She was however, fascinated by Grandpa and his ability to blow bubbles with his gum.

Another great weekend! Busy but enjoyable… I am sure I look forward to the week ahead!
Cameo is a very dear friend of mine and we have known one another since the age of about 4 or 5. We met at Bobbie’s and danced pretty much together until the day we graduated from high school. Even though life has become busy and we now have responsibilities as adults, time has not kept us from being friends. Cameo was married last year on June 28th, 2008, on my birthday! Her hubby Josh is fantastic and now they are expecting their first child, a girl, in November. I couldn’t be more excited for them!
Yesterday was Cameo’s baby shower and I felt so honored to have been there on such a happy day. It was a brunch shower and the food was awesome! Josh’s mom is an amazing cook. I ate more then I should have. The shower was simple and allowed everyone to mingle and catch up with everyone. Cameo looked radiant and so cute! Love that belly!
After some food and chit chat, Cameo sat down to open her presents. Boy oh boy did she get some cute stuff for her little girl. I think it was made apparent that a lot of people would like to see Cameo’s little girl dance too! We will see what the future brings. 🙂 The one things that I thought was very neat, and I might have to steal, is that on the invitation we were asked to bring our favorite childhood book to add to her little girls library. Very clever! She received a lot of wonderful books!

I had a wonderful time and I cannot wait to meet their beautiful baby girl. What a blessing and a gift. Congrats to the both of you!
As with all vacations, they eventually must come to my end. My parents included. Yesterday was our last day together before they had to head back to Montana. Jillian was already back home because of work and school. We spent the day just enjoying each others company and running some errands. Nothing super special. As much as we tried not to be, I think we were all sad that such a wonderful trip had to come to an end. After picking up some items at Trader Joe’s and attempting to find some good shoelaces for my dad, we stopped by Barbara and Mike’s house to visit. Barbara is my mom’s closest friend. It was a lovely visit and we certainly had a great time. Abby had some fun as well and certainly surprised the heck out of us too! Makes me smile. As always Abby was a very happy and well behaved little girl and she certainly enjoyed Barbara’s teddy bear!

After visiting we met up with Shaun and had a nice simple dinner. The rest of the evening was spent just talking and avoiding the inevitable. Abby was being a little goofball. I thought I would share a video clip, mainly because I just love to hear her giggle and chatter.
As it grew late, we had to say our goodbyes so that my parents could get back to their place and rest up for the trip home. I cant say I didnt get emotional or cry when they finally did leave, because I did. I felt like a kid being dropped off at preschool or the sitters for the first time and didnt want mom and dad to leave. When I was younger I never thought being a part from my parents would be so hard. In fact once you hit about high school you almost want to be away from them. Oh how that changes, especially once you are married and have children. Now my heart aches every time I see them and then have to leave. I dont think that will ever change. I do feel very blessed that we do get to see one another and I enjoy every moment I have with them. Until next time mom and dad… AKA Grandma and Grandpa Taylor!
Birthday Parties!! Who doesn’t love a birthday party!! Today we were invited to celebrate a first birthday and it was Abby’s first official birthday invitation. The Guerrero’s, who are friends of ours had their little boy, Harrison, only a few months before we had Abby… on August 8th to be exact. Today was his 1st Birthday celebration and we had a wonderful time!
Harrison’s party was in Calabasas at the park on Lost Hills and Los Virgenes. It was a warm day, but the Guerrero’s had it all covered, including covered seating! The party had a Sesame Street theme and Abby seemed to love that, especially the jolly jump that matched. Unfortunately she is a little too small for something like that, but she sure enjoyed watching all of the kids inside! When we arrived we found the birthday boy making his rounds with Byron and Erika. The two of them were so cute in their Elmo and Cookie Monster t-shirts!
We enjoyed watching everyone play and Abby enjoyed some of her special treats for the day. Shaun gave her a cinnamon and sugar cookie, which she loved and ate like crazy and she had some juice to wash that down with. After we sang to Harrison and he had the chance to make a mess with his cake (managed to get Byron with a full fist of cake) Abby was given an adorable cookie monster cupcake. She loved it! Abby loved the actual cupcake and ate some of the frosting! What a mess, but what fun!
The day was very special and we had a wonderful time! I have to give Erika some major credit! I wish I had taken a picture of Harrison’s cake because it was amazing. Shaun and I made sure to ask where they got it… ideas for Abby maybe? When we asked, we found out that they didn’t buy it… Erika made it!!! The cake was delicious and it looked like a professional cake! Great job on that one… you certainly had us fooled!
All in all it was a wonderful day and Abby seemed to enjoy her first friends birthday party! And so did we!
As a birthday gift to Zoe, we went to the Hollywood Bowl tonight to see Herbie Hancock perform. It was certainly a night that I was looking forward to. Herbie Hancock would be performing with classical pianist Yang Yang as a fusion of jazz and classical piano. I was wondering how this would turn out and after that fact, I can say it was wonderful! They played backed by the LA Philharmonic and I couldnt have asked for anything better. To add to our evening… Jackie and Emerson came with us! It was a perfect night!
The show opened with the LA Phil playing the Marriage of Figaro, which was wonderful and better then I expected! When Herbie Hancock and Yang Yang came out to perform afterward, it was a wonderful piece that I was fairly unfamiliar with, but it was beautiful. The sounds mixed together were amazing and the blend of classical and jazz piano blended very well! Because this piece was longer then most, intermission followed and then Act Two began.
Act Two was my favorite! The LA Phil opened with Leonard Bernstein’s “Mambo” from West Side Story and there was a bit of audience participation with that! Both Yang Yang and Herbie Hancock had the chance to play a few solo’s as well as a few dueling piano pieces. It was great! They of course closed with one of my facorite’s, Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”. INCREDIBLE! Unlike anything I have ever heard! There isnt much I can say… you just had to be there. It was an amazing way to close the show.
However, as an encore for those peopls who didnt rush off, Herbie Hancock and Yang Yang brought out a special guest, Josh Groban! How amazing! He was excellent and of course has a beautiful voice live. To finish the night, Herbie Hancock and Yang Yang played a medly of Gershwin Themes!
The night was perfect and even though it took a while to get home due to traffic, fun was had by all! It was great to have the chance to talk, laugh and enjoy each others company.
Abby turned 10 months old today! I think I say it all the time but I cannot believe how quickly time flies and how much Abby has grown. Her little personality is really starting to come out now. The belly laughs and giggles are cuter then ever and now when you tickle her, she screams in delight. Its hilarious and whenever I need a good smile I just give her little tummy or under arms a tickle. Abby is crawling and moving like crazy. She has started an attempt to climb stairs and she is trying to stand on her own. A few days ago, while standing in her play pen, she let go and stood for a few fleeting seconds. As long as she has something to hold on to, she will move around. Although, anytime you try to get her to walk by holding her hands, she just becomes dead weight and wants to swing and use you as her transportation. Smart little cookie if you ask me!
This morning I woke Abby up and as always, she was happy to see me. It really is wonderful to see her face light up and watch her excitement when you walk into her room in the morning or after a nap. The best part of being a parent is being loved unconditionally. When I walked in this is what greeted me!

Seriously?? How can you resist a face like that greeting you every morning?? What a blessing! Her smiles, giggles, chatters and the expressions she makes with her face make my heart sing.
After Abby woke up and did her usually morning things we sat down for a little bit of breakfast. Abby had what has become her new favorite, scrambled eggs and turkey sticks. She loves them! After breakfast it was time for Abby’s mid morning nap which gave me a chance to clean house. Not only was it Abby’s 10 month birthday, it was also Grandma Zoe’s birthday! We were getting the house together and cooking a lovely birthday dinner.
In the afternoon, Abby woke up just in time for Auntie Kenzi to make a quick stop to see all of us and the new house. Being as busy as she is with school and getting her PhD in Physical Therapy, it was so wonderful that she had the chance to come by and visit. It gave me the chance to catch up with her. We miss her bunches!
As Auntie Kenzi was leaving, grandma Zoe came and the birthday dinner was underway. Shaun BBQ’d some chicken, which was amazing, and made some wonderful salads to go with it! Abby had some mashed potates with turkey and carrots which she seemed to enjoy immensly. As you can see below, Abby has also discovered some new things about herself…like her nose. Better yet, she has discivered that she can stick her finger in it! So pretty!

Ah what a little charmer! I cant wait to show this one off to any future boyfriends! The perk of being a parent… blackmail photos!
