Pigtails!

Ellie is rocking a new and very first hair do! Yep, that hair of hers is finally long enough to put into pigtails! Its not something I plan to do a lot with her, since she doesn’t like to sit still long enough to put them in but it was fun while it lasted. Im not sure I am ready to see Ellie look more like a toddler then a baby. Ugh, they grow too fast!

Doctor Check-Ups and Growing Up

Turning a year old comes with a lot of perks. Cake, presents, lots of hugs and kisses from family and friends. And then, there is the one year check up at the doctors office. We woke up early and headed in to see Susie, the wonderful office PA. After a good check, Ellie looked great! We only had one issue regarding her tummy, but Susie felt it was because she had just had something to eat. We will go back in 2 weeks just to make sure. As for how Ellie is growing, here are her stats.

Ellie’s 1 Year Stats
Weight: 22 Pounds 12 Ounces
Height: 31 Inches

Ellie gained some weight but dropped to the 50th percentile, I am not shocked though because she has been growing and eating like a bottomless pit. In height, however, she has grown nearly 3 inches since her 9 month appointment. She is now in the 98th percentile for her height. I think we are going to have a tall and skinny girl on our hands. I guess we will see what happens as time goes on!

Ellie keeps growing and growing! The changes she has made in the last few months have been incredible. She is walking like a pro now and more and more of her personality is coming through. She is a big cuddle bug who loves her time with mommy… and daddy too. Ellie loves to talk and sing. At times I can hear her trying to sing the Alphabet song as well as Old McDonald. She may not know the words yet, but she certainly has the melody. As for words, she has said a few things…

Gog = Dog
Raff = Giraffe
Guck = Duck
Uh Oh

All stages in life are fun, but I do enjoy watching and listening as words and sentences are spoken. Finally breaking some communication barriers. I look forward to the next few months and cannot wait to share all of those moments.

Let’s Party Like It’s Ellie’s First Birthday!

Its Ellie’s First Birthday and its time to party! It was actually a small celebration with close family and friends but fun was had by all. Ellie seemed a little overwhelmed by all of the people in her house, but she warmed up eventually. Shaun and I had planned to have people enjoy our patio as well as the house, but unfortunately the day turned out to be a scorcher! Nearly 100 degrees! We still BBQed, but most of the party stayed inside where the AC was going full blast. Thank goodness we kept things small otherwise no one would have fit in the house!

It is very obvious that there is a lot of love for our girls. Ellie was given a lot for her birthday, including a handmade hat from Jackie Escobar. Her hat matched her birthday dress perfectly and Ellie looked adorable in it.

Birthday cake time was a blast. Ellie wore her birthday hat, well… just for a moment. When the cake was first brought out, Ellie went straight for the candles and of course looked around at us like we were nuts for singing. We werent that bad! But once the candles were blown out it didnt take long for Ellie’s fingers to find her way to the cake. Once she realized that it was ok to tough the cake, she was all over it. It didnt take long before the cake was demolished and all over Ellie. Abby, Emily and Harrison helped a little too and snuck a taste when they could.

After cake was done, it was time for presents. Once again it was obvious how much Ellie is loved. She recieved a lot of beautiful things from clothes to toys and a few cute dolls. Ellie played a lot and loved her presents, even though she had no interest in them as we opened them. She was more interested in a puzzle that Abby had received from Grandma Zoe. Boy, was she great at that puzzle!

While it was a hot day and a small party we all had a wonderful time. My parents made it all the way from Montana and had the chance to see some people they had not seen in quite some time. Friends and family talked, laughed and had a wonderful time. It was yet another successful birthday party!

Happy Birthday Ellie!

…To Our Little Ellie Bellie…

Its hard to believe that its been over a year since I could feel you kicking and flipping inside my tummy or rhythmically jumping each time you had hiccups. Its hard to believe that its been a year since I held you in my arms for the very first time. It’s hard to believe that its been a year since I looked at your Daddy, tears in my eyes, and told him how beautiful you are and how much you look like your sister. It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since the Wharton Family of three became the Wharton Family of four.

The day you were born was beautiful. It was sunny but cool for a July day. Abby stayed at home with Auntie Jillian, Grandma Denise and Grandpa Jerry. In just a few hours they would come over to the hospital to meet you for the very first time. I remember feeling many different emotions on our drive to the hospital. I was excited to meet to finally meet you but nervous about the Cesarean that would bring you into this world.

We arrived at the hospital a little before 10am and the nurses got me ready for surgery. Your daddy held my hand when I was nervous and made me smile and laugh to keep me calm. He walked with me into the OR and stayed by my side. Then, at 1:24pm you were born. All 7 pounds 15 ounces and 20.5 inches of you. I waited to hear you cry and when you did, so did I. I couldn’t wait to hold you and when I did it was true love all over again.

When you were 6 weeks old, I found myself faced with watching my baby go through something I couldn’t fix or make better on my own or without the help of a doctor. For nearly 2 weeks you were in the hospital and your daddy and I stayed by your side. We helped you with every attack due to whooping cough and prayed as we heard the stories of the other babies who had come and gone with the same illness some made it through and some did not. We prayed and patiently waited, your little hand bound to a board to hold your IV in and monitors attached to your legs, toes and arms. Despite the discomfort you always looked up at your Daddy and I with a smile on your face and love in your eyes. Despite all you had been through you looked at us as though you were trying to say that everything would be ok, like you were trying to comfort us.

Since then you have been happy and healthy and a joy to watch grow. You have never done anything slowly or lacking in determination. You were sitting up on your own by 5 months, crawling by 6 months, standing by 9 months and walking by 10 months. You are a mommy’s girl who loves to cuddle up and snuggle when you can. Like your sister, you love to talk and sing, even though we cant understand you yet. You love puzzles and blocks and of course, the remote control but most of all you love to give kisses and hugs.

Happy First Birthday Ellie. We love you with all our hearts and we cannot wait for whats in store for us in the years ahead. We cannot wait for your first real words, first sentences and much much more. We love you Ellie Bellie!

Love Mommy, Daddy, Abby and Jack too!

Ellie is 10 Months!

Ellie turned 10 months today. 10 Months. That means only 2 months until she is a year old! So much changes so fast. I swear the time with Ellie has gone a lot faster then it did with Abby. How is that? I guess its because I have my hands full with both girls. While I am sad to see her grow up so fast, I look forward to the next 14 months. With Abby, I completely enjoyed the time between 10 months and 2 years old. Ellie is almost a toddler and I really love the toddler years. So much changes and our little ones start doing things for themselves. Its amazing!

Ellie is talking a lot, well with baby babble, although I swear every now and then I hear something that sounds like a word. She is also starting to sing, which is really some very sweet to see. Always makes me smile, especially when I need it the most. Ellie is also standing for long periods of time and she is so close to taking steps. You can see she wants to do it but hasnt quite figured out how to do it. I have a feeling she will soon though.

It seems as though Ellie has settled in well after the move, although we dont have much time to adjust. In just a few days we take off for Montana! This will be Ellie’s first roadtrip with just mommy and Abby. I know, people think I am nuts but I am completely comfortable with it. I have a feeling Ellie will be taking her first steps on this trip. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Some of April… Where Did it Go?

April… we are a little more then half way through… where has it gone! Boy has that month flown by and its mainly because we have been so busy. What have the Wharton’s been up to? Well lets see…

On the first of April Ellie turned 9 months old. My how she is growing. She crawls like a pro and is standing up whenever she gets the chance. I personally think that by mid-May she will be taking her first steps and then I will never hear the end of it. Ellie chatters like crazy and thanks to her big sister, she has learned how to scream like a banshee! And that scream could shatter glass too!

Ellie also saw Dr. Calig for her 9 Month check up and she is doing very well. Healthy as can be! Her scream is so ear piercing you would have never known she was down with Whooping Cough at 6 weeks old. She has grown a lot in weight and length since her last appointment. Can’t she just stay a tiny little peanut forever!?

Ellie’s 9 Month Stats
Weight: 21 Pounds 9 Ounces
Height: 28 1/2 Inches

All of April has pretty crazy for us. Between prepping and making some major changes in our lives (more to come on that later), we did find the time to sneak a few moments of fun into the month. On the 19th, Shaun surprised me with tickets to my very first Stanley Cup playoffs game. We had the chance to go to the first home game (Game 3, Round 1) and support our Kings. The game didnt end the way we had hoped for, but it was still fun nonetheless. Maybe next year we will be watching the Kings in the finals?

Despite the loss, Shaun and I had a great time. We even had the chance to see Marty McSorley during the rally before the game began. The energy during a playoff game is so intense but everyone was in a great mood and ready for a fun night. I can only hope to go again next year! Now that the fun is over, its back to reality and to lots of work ahead of us.

8 Months and Growing!

Has it really been another month already? Can Ellie really be 8 months old already? Only four more months and she will be a year old! Ellie is changing by leaps and bounds and she is really starting to show her personality. Always loving, snuggling with mommy and daddy when she gets the chance and enjoying the play time she has with her sister.

Ellie smiles and giggles a lot, but Abby is generally the one who can get the most laughs out of her. She moves like crazy and is pretty much into everything that she can get to. Ellie is pulling herself up and standing, often times onto things mommy wishes she wouldn’t climb on to. I have a feeling that I will have to pull out the play yard, AKA “the Prison”, very soon in order to keep my sanity. Ellie is a strong little girl with an even stronger will, just like her sister. I know our girls will keep us on our toes as time marches on, but I look forward to every moment of it!

Standing!!

Just a day shy of 8 months old and I walk into the room after nap time to see this….

… Ellie is standing up on her own! I just know its only a matter of time before she is walking around the house, trying to keep up with her sister. Oh goodness, I am not sure I am ready for her to walk around yet!

Ellie is Crawling!

Just like it says… Ellie is Crawling! Before I could grab my video camera she crawled all the way from our coffee table, which is pushed up against the wall, to a point halfway between the couch and the kitchen. She is on the move! I was able to catch this short journey, motivated by my cell phone. Is this a sign of the future?

Ellie is 7 Months!

Ellie turned 7 months today! January was a huge blur and before I know it, its February 1st and another month has gone by. Ellie wont see the doctor again until her 9 month check up, so I dont have any stats to share, but I know she has grown since her last check up. Just by holding her I can tell she has gotten longer and heavier. I might, however, attempt to weigh her and measure her length on my own if I can get her to sit still long enough!

One thing that contributes to our little girl growing so much is what she can now eat. Ellie is now eating all kinds of baby food. She doesn’t seem to have any allergies to anything we have given her, which is great. She eats stage 2 foods and when I say she eats… SHE EATS. Yesterday morning I gave her quarter cup of prepared rice cereal, two of the four ounce stage two containers of fruit and a 5 oz. bottle… she didn’t leave a drop of anything behind. It was basically like that for every meal that day.

Ellie smiles a lot and is just a happy baby most of the time. She is cutting her two bottom teeth which does cause same crankiness, but nothing I cannot manage. She is also getting so close to crawling that I predict she will be on the move in just a week or two. She watches Abby intently and I can see her trying to figure out what she can do to get up and walk around just like her bog sister. My best bet is that Ellie will be walking very soon too, but I dont want to rush things either. Let’s not grow up too fast, ok Ellie?
