Happy Mother’s Day 2014

Happy Birthday to all of the beautiful mama’s out there! Every day you should be celebrated but enjoy this extra special time with your little ones (whether they are newborn or have little monkey’s of their own).
To my mama, thank you so much for showing me how to be the mother I am today. Your endless love and support is contagious. Thank you for picking me up when I fell, for teaching me the important life lessons, and showing unconditional and sometimes tough love. Thank you for your sacrifices and selflessness. Thank you for understanding the craziness of this mama’s life and appreciating even the small amounts of time we get to talk. Like a true friend, we can always pick up where we left off. You are amazing and I am so happy that I can call you mom. Love you!

To the little monkey’s that made me a mama, I love you both in a way that I cannot describe in words. I didn’t know I could be so lucky in life until I met your daddy and both of you were born. Thank you for teaching me patience (and goodness knows I have to be very patient with you at times), for showing me love, showing me how to smile and laugh at the little things in life and for letting me live life through your bright and intelligent little eyes. I learn something new every day because of you! Thank you for letting me be your mommy! I love you both so much!

A Belated Mother’s Day Trip

Happy Belated Mothers Day everyone!
As if we haven’t been sick enough, I ended up with a tummy bug the night before Mother’s Day so all of our plans had to be postponed. So today we celebrated and enjoyed a day in Santa Barbara at the zoo with Grandma Zoe. The weather was beautiful and everything seemed to work out just right for us.
The newest buzz at the zoo was the birth of two baby giraffes. From two different mothers, Sunshine and Dane were born within a week of one another and during the morning hours they were out in the habitat for everyone to see. We had to make sure we caught a glimpse of them before heading to Seattle!
Aside from the baby giraffes, the big excitement for the day was having a chance to feed the giraffes! Knowing Abby’s fear of some animals I thought for sure that she would back out of this. But to my surprise she didn’t. In fact, she loved it and was sad when all of her lettuce was gone! After the feeding she talked all day about how long, slimy and purple the giraffes tongue was. What a fabulous experience!
We had a lot of luck at the zoo and had the chance to see so many animals. All of them were out and moving around which is a rarity. When everything had been seen and we had had enough, we hoped back into the car. As we tried to leave, we were caught in the tail end of the Amgen California bike race. Once through that we took a lovely drive and then headed home.
As a final bit of fun we stopped in Camarillo at Ottavio’s for dinner, which was delicious! It was the perfect close to a great Mother’s Day.
This Black -crowned Night Heron was very interested in what we had to eat.
Big smiles and happy tummies. A little lunch before our trip through the zoo.
Ellie is explaining many things…
Love baby giraffes! Meet Dane and Sunshine the newest members of the SB Zoo family.

Look at those big lips and tongue! Ellie couldn’t stop giggling!
A little love from mama.
Neema the lioness was happy as a clam chewing on her bone. Abby and Ellie were so excited the she was this close to them.

Mom and Me Day at Preschool

Today was Mom and Me day at Abby’s preschool. A special day in celebration of Mother’s Day and a chance to see what Abby does during preschool. We had such a great time. We sat and made sculptures with play dough, made a beautiful flower vase with tissue paper and a glass bottle, played with blocks and went outside to slide and swing.
I loved having a day with my “Abber Dabbers”. She was so proud to have me there too. What a feeling it is to have your child show you off to her friends like you are better then any toy on earth. I have never been so proud to be called mommy then in that moment. I know one day that will change and my being there will be “uncool” so I will take it all in while I can. I will enjoy the hour and a half spent looking at preschool through the eyes of my four year old.
Abby’s “Wind Up Monster”. She made him out of play dough and even has a wind up on his back.
Silly Abby… I asked for a big smile and she gave me a big smile!
That’s more like it. So proud of this little cutie!
Mommy and Abby!

Mother’s Day 2012

Today we celebrated Mother’s Day. It was a pretty quiet day to be honest and I will admit I liked it. I got a lot of cleaning done, we had dinner with Grandma Zoe and she had some time with Abby and Ellie, and then we relaxed in the evening. I didnt even think to pick up the camera and take pictures of the flowers Shaun gave me, which were beautiful! The moments we did catch were of Abby helping me frost the cake I made. She was so excited to do it too. The minute the cake came out of the oven she was asking me when. I had to tell her that the cake needed time to cool and then we could put the frosting on. From that point I think she asked me every 10 minutes or so. “Mommy is the cake cool yet?” So cute. Glad I caught those moments with our camera though. It’s Abby and Ellie and these moments, after all, that make me a mom. Happy Mothers Day!

Mother’s Day 2011

Happy Mother’s Day! Being a mom is the best in the world and there is no better way to celebrate the day then to head to Yellowstone National Park. My mom and I both decided that this is what we wanted to do. Because it was going to be another gloomy and wet Spring day, we decided not to get up super early and just make the day a more casual one. We took our time getting to the park and even stopped to pick up some lunch in Gardiner.

With our lunch in hand, we headed in to Yellowstone in search of a place to eat our lunch. We were hoping to find a picnic spot, but unfortunately many of the covered picnic areas had a lot of snow around them. After trying several places and failing, we decided just to stop and picnic in the back of our cars. Abby sat in Grandpa and Grandma’s car with them while Jillian and I hung out in the back of my car. While it might seem like an odd place, it was pretty fun! One of the many perks of owning an SUV! Abby had a blast as well and stayed warm and dry as the rain started to pick up.

Once lunch was finished we hopped back into our cars and continued on our way out to Lamar Valley. As we entered the valley it was obvious that people were stopped and looking at something. Down along the river was a bison kill and coyotes had just been on it feeding. While everyone was focused on that, along the hillside across the road we saw three or four wolves running along. It appears as though they were heading to a den way up in the hills. I couldn’t catch a picture of them, but I was so excited to once again see wolves that close in Yellowstone.

As we continued on, we ran into a few visitors who had just come from a spot where two Grizzlies had been. Not being in any hurry, we decided to head out that direction to see what we could find. A lot of people had stopped in one spot, but we could not see what everyone was looking at. We decided to turn the car around and head back to Mammoth Hot Springs, taking another quick look to see if we could spot anything. Just as we came up on the popular spot, two sub adult male Grizzlies came darting across the road and onto the hillside! It was amazing! Once across they stopped and continued to forage for more food. Luckily I was able to snap a few shots.

After our two in one Grizzly bonus sighting, we headed back towards Mammoth with big smiles on our faces. As we headed out of Lamar Valley and close to Tower Junction, we ran into another large furry friend. This time, our Grizzly was walking down a small creek just outside of the Slough Creek area. I was able to snag a few shots but unfortunately the rude wildlife photographers were out and ruining everyone’s photo ops. It was still fun to see this guy and once again we were on our way with smiles on our faces.

The remainder of the day was quiet in regards to wildlife, but still beautiful. We drove down through the west side of Yellowstone to Old Faithful. There we stopped for a break and to look around the inn before taking off and heading home.

Our drive home, after a stop in West Yellowstone, was pretty for what we could see. The sun was setting fast but we took in all that we could see. Once the sun had set, the drive became a little bit nerve wrecking as there were animals everywhere! But, we made it home safely with another day of great memories.

To All The Mommies and Mommies To Be…

Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day this year was quiet, but very very nice. I woke up this morning to Abby and Shaun bringing me a few gifts. Abby gave me three books for us to read together. The first was a board book about mommy and baby animals. Shaun had stuck the card she was giving to me inside this book and gave it to Abby to hand to me. Abby however, liked this book a lot and it took some time before she turned it over to me. The second book was a classic and one of my favorites… “Are You My Mother?”. I cant wait to read that one to Abby! The third and final book was a cookbook of easy recipes for Abby and I to make together when she gets a bit older. So exciting! And to top it all off, Shaun gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers of which I meant to take a picture and did not do!

After presents, Shaun and Abby cooked breakfast for me. I felt very pampered and very lucky to have two wonderful people in my life. Even Jack kept trying to cuddle up with me, but I think thats because he senses there is another little creature on the way to take up more space in his house and his life. After breakfast, Grandpa Pat and Nana Fiona stopped by for a few minutes to visit. We all had the opportunity to chat for a bit and enjoy the relaxed Sunday morning.

In the afternoon, Grandma Zoe came over to have dinner with us. We decided not to cook, but instead enjoy some BBQ from Rosie’s. This was my first time eating there and wow… that was some great BBQ! What a Mother’s Day dinner! The baby back ribs were especially great and I think I will be craving those a lot during the last bits of pregnancy.

After dinner we just kicked back and relaxed. My one request was to watch the Chicago vs. Vancouver game which turned out to be a dud of a game. Oh well, I still enjoyed most of it. After becoming bored with the game we turned on some of Abby’s shows and let her veg while we had some cake and ice cream, the cake made by your truly. The evening ended quietly but very nice. Couldnt have asked for a better Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day Everyone!

Mothers Day

SO… I celebrated my first official Mother’s Day this year! It was a very nice, low key day. Shaun made me breakfast in bed and I woke up to find a beautiful bouquet of roses sitting on my dresser. We basically hung around the house all day and didn’t bother with unpacking or cleaning (which was very nice). Then Zoe came over for a nice dinner that Shaun prepared. The menu included a lovely creamy tomato soup with pesto to start, bacon wrapped Fillet Mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus as the main course and mini pound cakes with strawberries, vanilla ice cream, whip cream and homemade strawberry syrup for dessert. I must say… I was very pampered!

The beautiful roses that I found on my dresser when I woke up… aren’t they beautiful?!

Breakfast in bed included pancakes, strawberries, bacon eggs and a cold glass of milk. I just had to take a picture because it looked so yummy! I soon found out that it was!

It is hard to believe that I have already celebrated my first Mother’s Day. Time flies so fast. I have to say though, being a mom is the best thing I could possibly think of doing. I look at Abigail every day and think to myself, “I cant believe that I was part of creating this beautiful little person”. I know, mushy… but its true. She is one of the many wonders that I cherish in this world!

Abigail wearing her pretty blue and white dress. It looks just like a Tiffany’s box! At this point she was ready to go to bed.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmas, great-grandmas, aunts, sisters and everyone in between. I hope it was a wonderful day!
