Ellie is rocking a new and very first hair do! Yep, that hair of hers is finally long enough to put into pigtails! Its not something I plan to do a lot with her, since she doesn’t like to sit still long enough to put them in but it was fun while it lasted. Im not sure I am ready to see Ellie look more like a toddler then a baby. Ugh, they grow too fast!

A Small Act of Kindness and A Funny Joke
On the way home from picking up the girls tonight, we stopped to grab a soda. As we pulled up to the window, we saw a local homeless man, a veteran camped out on the grass. Before moving to Porter Ranch, we had seen this man many times. He has a cart with all of his belongings packed into it and his best buddy, his dog. He moves around this particular part of the valley, camping out each night in a different place.
When we pulled up to the window Shaun added a plain hamburger to our order. Before leaving we pulled up to the man and gave him the cheeseburger to give to his adorable pup and then gave him a few dollars. We spoke with him for a moment and just before we left he told us a joke, one he said I would love…
“What are a woman’s 4 favorite animals?” – “A Mink to go around her neck, a Jaguar parked in the garage, a Tiger in the bedroom and a Jackass to pay for it all!
He was right and I did love it! Made me laugh and it also made me smile to help a man and his dog in need. I wish I had all the money in the world to help but I also know we did what we could. Small acts of kindness can certainly help in big ways.
I Crack Myself Up
Abby has started saying something that sounds like “Bama”. Not sure where this came from or why she is saying but every time she does, she cracks herself up. When I say “cracks herself up” I don’t mean little giggles. She starts laughing hysterically to the point of snorting. Shaun and I then start laughing because its hilarious, which in turn causes her to laugh even harder. I do not know where this started, but it always seems to put a big smile on my face!
Princess Training!
Running around, wrapped in her blankie and adorned with a wand and tiara, Abby was put through the rigors of princess training, hosted by her Auntie Jillian. This kept Abby busy for a good hour and was probably one of the funniest things I have seen her do. Auntie Jillian showed her how to walk like a princess, wave like a princess, toss her hair like a princess and of course curtsy like a princess. Abby had a blast and it was a perfect last night with family. Ah the memories we make!
Sisterly Love…
On the day Ellie was born, Abby came with Shaun to the hospital to meet her new sister. We didn’t know how Abby would react to this new baby taking up mommy and daddy’s time, but it seems as though they have a bond that no one but the two of them can understand.
Just a few days ago, Ellie and I had the chance to spend the day together. Just the two of us. After dropping Abby off we headed out to run some errands and during that car ride, Ellie fell asleep. She continued to sleep through most of our first stop, waking up just I was about to pay for the items I needed. When we got into the car, Ellie kept looking around the handle of her car seat as though she was trying to find something. She looked and looked and then finally turned to me, her bottom lip turned out, on the verge of tears. It was then I realized that she was looking for Abby, her sister and best buddy. She was upset that Abby was not there to ride in the car with her; to make her laugh and keep her company.
It was at this moment that I realized just how close they are, despite the fact that there are two years that separate them and Ellie isn’t even a year old. It is obvious that their relationship as sisters and best friends is limitless. All that time I spent worrying about how they would handle each other now seems so silly. Yes, as time goes on they will have their fights, someone will hit the other, and someone else will complain that the other is bugging her but from what I can see those are small fleeting moments that will not break the bond they have. It makes my heart soar and even puts tears in my eyes each time they make each other laugh, giggle or just chatter back and forth with one another in a language none of us can understand. What a blessing I have been given. What a blessing they have been given.
Sunday Dinner
Tonight we had dinner over at Grandma Zoe’s house. It was a nice, quiet and casual dinner and as always, the girls had a good time playing and getting themselves into trouble. We had a lovely dinner of tacos, beans and rice and I think Abby ate maybe a few of those things. She has become my little eater without an appetite. Its common at this age!
In a environment other then home, I get to watch our girls play and enjoy themselves. Tonight I could see just how much Abby and Ellie have grown and changed. Ellie is on the move discovering new things and Abby is always finding something new to play with and listening hard to the adults for new things to say. I love these little faces with all my heart and I don’t think I could take enough pictures of them.
Summer In January?
Well its January, and in true California fashion… it feels like its Summer! The last week has brought 80 degree weather and of course the Santa Ana winds from time to time. I had to do a bit of digging to find some outfits that were cool enough for Abby to wear. Luckily many of the baby clothes I had for Abby at 6 months of age were summer type clothes, so Ellie has plenty to wear.
There is nothing like wearing shorts and dresses, eating Popsicles because its actually warm and watching hockey while roasting away at home. Gotta love Southern California and its January heat waves!
Snuggles With Ellie
Shaun and I try to get Abby and Ellie to nap in the afternoon together, so that we have time to spend with one another and just get some things done. Today that didn’t happen, so Ellie spent time in our room, snuggling with daddy and taking some stabs at sitting up on her own. The bed is nice and soft, so if she tips over and doesn’t catch herself, the landing wont be so tough. She did well! Its amazing to me how quickly she has grown and the big changes that have occurred. She has such a personality and her facial expressions are priceless. Although, I never seem to catch the best ones on camera! Who wouldn’t want to just sit in bed and snuggle with this little face. Almost made me want to wake Abby up and snuggle with her too! Almost, but not quite! 🙂

Abby’s New Hats…
In the last few weeks Abby has been given a few new hats. At first I thought she would hate wearing them, mainly because its been that way in the past but I was completely wrong. She loves them! I am very happy about this because I saw the owl hat at The Children’s Place and I just had to get it. The Pink and Brown hat was made by our dear friend Jackie and it completely fits Abby’s personality. Yay for cute hats for winter, even if it is Southern California!
Childhood Regression?
I think that Abby has regressed back to the age of 6 to 9 months. She constantly climbs into Ellie’s play saucer while Ellie is napping. The funny part though is watching her try to figure out how shes going to get out. It usually ends in tears and asking for mommy to help her. Gotta love this free little spirit.
Monkey Says…
There is a new show on Sprout called Monkey See Monkey Do and Abby LOVES it. She loves to follow the directions as best she can and really just have fun. Because of that show, Shaun has now started to play “Monkey Says” with her and she has a blast. I caught some video of her doing this just after bath time and I couldn’t stop filming, it was too funny. Its longer then most of our video clips but its cute. She is such a funny and silly little girl. I think we have found a really good way to get her to listen and follow directions when we ask her to do something!
